Two tetranuclear cubane-like nickel(II) complexes of formula [Ni4(CH3O)4(L1)4(CH3OH)4] (1) and [Ni4(CH3O)4(L2)4(CH3OH)4] (2) (HL1 = 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and HL2 = 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde) have been prepared by the reaction of NiCl2·6H2O with methanolic solutions of HL1 and HL2 in the presence of triethylamine at room temperature. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray crystal structure analysis revealed that 1 and 2 have a cubane-type structural topology with four Ni(II) ions and four methoxo-oxygen atoms regularly alternating at the corners. Abstract The reaction of the iron(III) unit fac-[Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)3]− [ HB ( pz ) 3 - = hydrotris ( 1 - pyrazolyl ) borate ] as the lithium salt (1) with the nickel(II) complex mer-[Ni(dpt)(H2O)3](ClO4)2 [dpt = dipropylenetriamine] in water affords the heterometallic compound of formula {[FeIII{HB(pz)3}(CN)3]2[NiII(dpt)]}n · 3nH2O (2). The structure of 2 has been determined by X-ray diffraction on single crystals and their magnetic properties have been investigated in the temperature range 1.9–300 K. Abstract The preparation, crystal structure and magnetic properties of a new oxalate-containing copper(II) chain of formula {[(CH3)4N]2[Cu(C2O4)2] · H2O}n (1) [(CH3)4N+ = tetramethylammonium cation] are reported. The structure of 1 consists of anionic oxalate-bridged copper(II) chains, tetramethylammoniun cations and crystallization water molecules. Each copper(II) ion in 1 is surrounded by three oxalate ligands, one being bidentate and the other two exhibiting bis-bidenate coordination modes. Although all the tris-chelated copper(II) units from a given chain exhibit the same helicity, adjacent chains have opposite helicities and then an achiral structure results. The synthesis and structural characterization of the neutral gadolinium tetrakis-type complex with 5,7-dichloro-8-quinolinolato (H5,7ClQ) ligands, [Gd(5,7ClQ)2(H5,7ClQ)2Cl], is reported. The GdIII ion is epta coordinated to one chloride ion and to four ligands: two N,O-chelated monoanions and two as zwitterionic (+NH and O–) monodentate oxygen donors. Electronic and vibrational spectra provide suitable markers to distinguish the presence of deprotonated and protonated ligands. The structure of [Ni(cyclam)(μ 1 , 3 -dca) 2 Cu(μ 1 , 5 -dca) 2 ], a genuine 3D dicyanamide-bridged bimetallic coordination polymer, is made up of 2D [Cu(μ- 1 , 5 dca) 2 ] n layers connected by [Ni(cyclam)(μ 1 , 3 -dca) 2 ] bridging moieties; it exhibits a ferromagnetic exchange interaction between copper(ll) and nickel(ll) ions through the μ 1 , 3 -bidentate dicyanamide bridges.

The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic P2(1)/c space group with a = 11.2470(3) A, b = 5.9034(2) A, c = 12.0886(3) A, β = 115.143(1)°, and V = 726.58(4) A(3) and consists of discrete monomeric NiCl(2)(o-phenylendiamine)(2) molecules. Each o-phen ligand coordinates in a bidentate mode with the chloride ions occupying trans positions in the resulting tetragonally distorted octahedral coordination sphere. The behaviour of 1,1′,2,2′-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)-4,4′-di(tert-butyl)ferrocene (1), acting as a homoannular or heteroannular ligand, has been studied. Due to the cisoid disposition of the phosphino groups of each ring, different coordination modes are observed. With group 6 metal carbonyls, M(CO)6, the tetraphosphine acts exclusively as a tridentate ligand. In contrast, the reaction with MnCp(CO)3 leads to complexes showing 1,1′ and 1,2 bidentate coordination modes. All these complexes have been characterised by 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy. Abstract This paper reports the synthesis and complete characterization (structural, spectroscopic and magnetic) of [Cu(HBIMAM)Cl(C4O4)]n · (H2O)n [BIMAM = bis(imidazol-2-yl)methylaminomethane]. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along c axis – built from [CuCl(HBIMAM)]+ units bridged together by μ-O1,O3-bis(monodentate) squarate anions. Non-covalent interactions (H-bonds and π–π) drive the build-up of an infinite three-dimensional array. The coordination polyhedron about the copper(II) ion is distorted square pyramidal. Five new complexes of formulae [M2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2X2]n [M = Fe(III) (2), Mn(II) (3), Co(II) (4), Ni(II) (5) and Zn(II) (6), and X = Cl−/OH− (2) and H2O (3–6); 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine and Memal = methylmalonate dianion] have been synthesized by following the previously reported procedure for [Cu2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2(H2O)2]n (1).
