In-vitro fatigue and fracture performance of three different ferrulized implant connections used in fixed prosthesis
2021
Background/purpose: The aim of the present in vitro study was to evaluate fatigue resistance of dental fixtures in three different types of fixture/abutment finishing line. Materials and methods: Transmucosal dental implants, with or without ferrulized neck, underwent fatigue tests (static and dynamic load) using the following standard protocol: UNI EN ISO 14801:2016. Two types of loading devices (screw- or cement-retained restoration) were also tested, and fatigue cycle tests were run to failure. Data of static and dynamic load tests were analyzed by proper statistical methods. Results: Following standard protocol for fatigue testing, the ILC type (Implant Level with ferrulized neck and ce…
In vitro investigation of the impact of remaining tooth structure on the tensile failure loads of overdenture copings
2019
Background The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the impact of the remaining tooth structure on the retention of overdenture cast metal copings. Material and Methods A freshly extracted intact mandibular human canine (length 25 mm) was selected and endodontically treated. An incisal reduction of 4 mm with no ferrule preparation was performed and a post space of 12 mm was created. By using polyvinyl siloxane duplication material and autopolymerizing polymethylmethacrylate resin, ten resin teeth analogs (control group) were obtained. A second set of ten resin teeth analogs (group 1) was created by preparing on the original natural tooth a 360o ferrule design of 1 mm in height and…
In vitro assessment of retention and resistance failure loads of complete coverage restorations made for anterior maxillary teeth restored with two d…
2019
Background The purpose of this in vitrostudy was to evaluate the retention and resistance form of complete coverage restorations supported by two different cast post and core designs. Material and methods Forty extracted maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into four groups of 10 specimens each (namely A, B, C and D). All specimens were endodontically treated and a uniform post space of 9mm was created. All prepared teeth had a 360o chamfer ferrule of 2mm in axial height measured 0.5mm coronally from the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and an axial wall thickness of 1.5 mm. Specimens in groups A and C received cast post and cores with the standardized core design, where the core en…
A study on stress distribution to cement layer and root dentin for post and cores made of CAD/CAM materials with different elasticity modulus in the …
2019
Background To evaluate the stress distribution in a maxillary central incisor with different post and cores made of six CAD/CAM materials with different elastic modulus in the absence of ferrule using the finite element analysis. Material and methods A three-dimensional endodontically treated maxillary central incisor restored with an all-ceramic crown was modelled in Rhinoceros (5.0 SR8, McNeel). The geometries were analyzed in ANSYS 17.2 (ANSYS Inc.) considering isotropic, homogeneous, linearly elastic materials with perfectly bonded contacts. The elastic moduli (E) of the post-and-cores defined the groups to be compared: nanoceramic resin (E=12.8GPa); composite resin (E=16GPa); hybrid ce…
Fibre post behaviour prediction factors. A review of the literature
2013
Introduction: The advantages of fibre posts over stainless steel posts have been demonstrated in numerous studies. For clinical success, various factors need to be taken into account in post-retained restorations. Material and Methods: A review was made of literature on fibre posts published from 2000 to February 2011, identified through searches of the PubMed/Medline databases. Results: The position of the tooth in the arch, ferrule size, proximal contact, periodontal support and restoration type are survival prediction factors that should be considered when performing post-endodontic restoration. Since fibre posts present good biomechanical behaviour as a result of their elastic modulus, …
