ChemInform Abstract: First Synthesis of Medium-Sized Ring Allenyl Lactams.

2012

Medium-sized lactams bearing an axially chiral allene unit have been synthesized by using an aza-ketene Claisen rearrangement. Starting from 2-alkynylpiperidines or 2-alkynylazepines, ring enlargement enabled the highly diastereoselective formation of 10- or 11-membered lactams with a 4,5-allene subunit. X-ray analysis of the allenylacezinone showed the presence of a strained cumulated olefin system with a defined arrangement of the functional groups. The cyclic allenes were found to be stable upon heating up to 50 °C.

Multicenter stability of diffusion tensor imaging measures: a European clinical and physical phantom study.

2011

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) detects white matter damage in neuro-psychiatric disorders, but data on reliability of DTI measures across more than two scanners are still missing. In this study we assessed multicenter reproducibility of DTI acquisitions based on a physical phantom as well as brain scans across 16 scanners. In addition, we performed DTI scans in a group of 26 patients with clinically probable Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 12 healthy elderly controls at one single center. We determined the variability of fractional anisotropy (FA) measures using manually placed regions of interest as well as automated tract based spatial statistics and deformation based analysis. The coefficie…

Regulation of type IV collagen gene expression and degradation in fast and slow muscles during dexamethasone treatment and exercise.

2003

Glucocorticoids have anti-anabolic effects on many tissues and can cause muscle atrophy. However, their effects on type IV collagen gene expression and degradation in skeletal muscle have not been studied previously. Rats were treated daily with dexamethasone or saline. Half the groups of experimental and control animals were also subjected to daily endurance or uphill running exercise to determine the possible preventive effects of exercise. After an experimental period of 3 or 10 days, the extensor digitorum longus, soleus and tibialis anterior muscles were studied. Dexamethasone treatment for 10 days reduced muscle weight and type IV collagen mRNA abundance in all muscles. Gene expressio…

Multiplicative loops of 2-dimensional topological quasifields

2015

We determine the algebraic structure of the multiplicative loops for locally compact $2$-dimensional topological connected quasifields. In particular, our attention turns to multiplicative loops which have either a normal subloop of positive dimension or which contain a $1$-dimensional compact subgroup. In the last section we determine explicitly the quasifields which coordinatize locally compact translation planes of dimension $4$ admitting an at least $7$-dimensional Lie group as collineation group.

Hurwitz spaces of coverings with two special fibers and monodromy group a Weyl group of typeBd

2012

f! Y; where is a degree-two coverings with n1 branch points and branch locus D and f is a degree-d coverings with n2 points of simple branching and two special points whose local monodromy is given by e and q, respectively. Furthermore the covering f has monodromy group Sd and f. D /\ D fD? where D f denotes the branch locus of f . We prove that the corresponding Hurwitz spaces are irreducible under the hypothesis n2 s r dC 1.

A Group-theoretical Finiteness Theorem

2008

We start with the universal covering space $${\*M^n}$$ of a closed n-manifold and with a tree of fundamental domains which zips it $${T\longrightarrow\*M^n}$$ . Our result is that, between T and $${\* M^n}$$ , is an intermediary object, $${T\stackrel{p} {\longrightarrow} G \stackrel{F}{\longrightarrow} \*M^n}$$ , obtained by zipping, such that each fiber of p is finite and $${T\stackrel{p}{\longrightarrow}G\stackrel{F}{\longrightarrow} \*M^n}$$ admits a section.

Hypergraph functor and attachment

2010

Using an arbitrary variety of algebras, the paper introduces a fuzzified version of the notion of attachment in a complete lattice of Guido, to provide a common framework for the concept of hypergraph functor considered by different authors in the literature. The new notion also gives rise to a category of variable-basis topological spaces which is a proper supercategory of the respective category of Rodabaugh.

Local dimensions of sliced measures and stability of packing dimensions of sections of sets

2004

Abstract Let m and n be integers with 0 R n to certain properties of plane sections of μ. This leads us to prove, among other things, that the lower local dimension of (n−m)-plane sections of μ is typically constant provided that the Hausdorff dimension of μ is greater than m. The analogous result holds for the upper local dimension if μ has finite t-energy for some t>m. We also give a sufficient condition for stability of packing dimensions of section of sets.

Rigorous Multimode Equivalent Network Representation of Multilayer Planar Circuits

2018

The objective of this paper is to extend the use of the Multimode Equivalent Network formulation, originally developed to analyze waveguide junctions, to the analysis of planar circuits that include arbitrary rectangular printed, zero thickness metallizations together with internal and external ports in the transverse plane. The theoretical derivations lead to an accurate and computationally efficient tool for the analysis of boxed, multilayer microwave printed circuits. In addition to theory, the tool developed is used here to analyze two practical examples: a dual-bandpass and a 4-pole bandpass boxed microstrip filters. Good agreement with respect to commercial software tools and measurem…
