Demultiplexing Visible and Near-Infrared Information in Single-Sensor Multispectral Imaging

In this paper, we study a single-sensor imaging system that uses a multispectral filter array to spectrally sample the scene. Our system captures information in both visible and near-infrared bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. Due to manufacturing limitations, the visible filters in this system also transmit the NIR radiation. Similarly, visible light is transmitted by the NIR filter, leading to inaccurate mixed spectral measurements. We present an algorithm that resolves this issue by separating NIR and visible information. It is economically important for manufacturers of high- temperature machines to be able to measure creep so they can predict residual service life more accurately. This paper describes and refines an image analysis method for evaluating creep in laboratory test pieces. It is a preliminary study of how to extract relevant information for creep mea- surement by counting cavities. Sample preparation for quantification by image analysis is an important step determining the further development of the image analysis technique. Identification of linear parameter varying models

We consider identification of a certain class of discrete-time nonlinear systems known as linear parameter varying system. We assume that inputs, outputs and the scheduling parameters are directly measured, and a form of the functional dependence of the system coefficients on the parameters is known. We show how this identification problem can be reduced to a linear regression, and provide compact formulae for the corresponding least mean square and recursive least-squares algorithms. Higher order statistics of the response of MDOF linear systems under polynomials of filtered normal white noises

This paper exploits the work presented in the companion paper in order to evaluate the higher order statistics of the response of linear systems excited by polynomials of filtered normal processes. In fact, by means of a variable transformation, the original system is replaced by a linear one excited by external and linearly parametric white noise excitations. The transition matrix of the new enlarged system is obtained simply once the transition matrices of the original system and of the filter are evaluated. The method is then applied in order to evaluate the higher order statistics of the approximate response of nonlinear systems to which the pseudo-force method is applied.
Robust output feedback control of non-collocated low-damped oscillating load

For systems with order of dynamics higher than two and oscillating loads with low damping, a non-collocation of the sensing and control can deteriorate robustness of the feedback and, in worst case, even bring it to instability. Furthermore, for a contactless sensing of the oscillating mechanical load, like in the system under investigation, the control structure is often restricted to the single proportional feedback only. FIR Kramers–Kronig transformers for relaxation data conversion

It is shown that relaxation data conversion by the Kramers-Kronig (KK) relations can be treated as a filtering problem of band-unlimited relaxation signals in the Mellin transform domain. Based on this concept, KK relations are implemented in the form of FIR filters with the logarithmic sampling. It is demonstrated that KK transformers have sampling rate dependent impulse and frequency responses and only calculation of the imaginary part from the real part can be implemented by a computationally realisable filter. Air activity concentrations of (7)Be in Palermo determined for the period January 1995-December 2002 by gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of particulate samples collected on paper filter by a high-volume sampler (approximately 900 m(3) h(-1)) are reported. The temporal behaviour of (7)Be concentration presents the same characteristics already observed in the measurements carried out over the previous 13-year (1982-1994) investigated period. The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyse methanotrophs in two laboratory landfill biofilters at different biofilter depths and at temperatures which mimicked the boreal climatic conditions. Both biofilters were dominated by type I methanotrophs. The biofilter depth profiles showed that type I methanotrophs occurred in the upper layer, where relatively high O(2) and low CH(4) concentrations were present, whereas type II methanotrophs were mostly distributed in the zone with high CH(4) and low O(2) concentrations. AbstractIn biology, hemocytometers such as Malassez slides are widely used and are effective tools for counting cells manually. In a previous work, a robust algorithm was developed for grid extraction in Malassez slide images. This algorithm was evaluated on a set of 135 images and grids were accurately detected in most cases, but there remained failures for the most difficult images. In this work, we present an optimization of this algorithm that allows for 100% grid detection and a 25% improvement in grid positioning accuracy. BACKGROUND: Intensive chemotherapy with severe neutropenia is associated with invasive fungal infections (IFIs) leading to high mortality rates. During leukaemia induction chemotherapy, IFI often prohibited further curative treatment, thus predisposing for leukaemia relapse. Continuing myelosuppressive chemotherapy after diagnosis of IFI has become feasible with the now expanding arsenal of safe and effective antifungals.
