Efficiency of Health Centers in Cambodia: Case Study in Takeo Province

2015

Financing and efficiency of primary health care are two major issues for the development and deepening of health universal coverage in a context of strong financial constraint. In Cambodia, the development of demandside financing schemes - Health Equity Fund and Community-Based Health Insurance ? provides an opportunity to enhance the health centers (HCs) activity and thus their performance, which are very low as underlined by the literature. Nevertheless, except our study, the literature on Cambodian HCs focuses on the analysis of their activity and financing without taking into consideration efficiency issues. From a field survey, our study is a contribution to fill this gap by estimating…

Circuit Theory and the Employment Issue.

2005

The circuit is a time-honoured concept in economics. It can be traced back to the Physiocrats of eighteenth-century France, who viewed production as a circular process initiated by advances, that is, capital expenditures which are recouped when goods are produced and then sold. Ever since then, however, this conception, without being explicitly discarded, has been left on the sidelines. For instance, Schumpeter, Keynes, Kalecki and J. Robinson, to mention twentieth-century economists only, undoubtedly made allowance for the circuit but did not give it prominence.1 In fact, the idea of making use of this conception as a research tool remained largely dormant until the late 1960s in France an…

The metropolis in retrospect : from the trading metropolis to the global metropolis.

2005

SummaryMetropolization is not a new phenomenon: metropolises have been around for centuries. The prime and permanent function of a metropolis is the coordination of economic activities at a world scale. This function has been applied to different activities in history, depending on technological conditions and economic organization, and consequently it generated different forms of metropolises. The resulting continuities and discontinuities in the metropolises' evolution can be understood in terms of agglomeration economies. In the pre-industrial period, the trading metropolis coordinates long range trade. The industrial revolutions generate new needs for coordination of production and give…

How long does it take to earn a higher education degree in Spain ?

2010

International audience; The purpose of this paper is to identify the main determinants of time-to-degree in higher education. Our results use retrospective data on the full cohort of first-time entering students who embarked on short and long programs from one university in Spain and who were observed over an 8-year period ending in 2004. The descriptive analyses show that less than 40 percent of degree recipients are able to graduate within the minimum period of time. Duration models are estimated for different types of programs. The empirical results show that time-to-completion is extremely sensitive to students' abilities and, to a much lesser extent, to socio-economic background, motiv…

Credit and financial markets in the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the Middle Ages. Historiographic production and recent developments

2021
