On the Effect of Slotted Blades on Savonius Wind Generator Performances by CFD Analysis

In this paper a new bucket configuration for Savonius wind generator is proposed. With the aim to increase the effect of the overlap ratio RS on the wind turbine performances and to increase the amount of lift force able to produce torque and power, slotted blades are investigated by means of the Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis. The numerical analyses are performed by Comsol Multiphysics® and the results obtained for a Savonius wind turbine with overlap only are compared to numerical and experimental benchmarks. The diagnosis of induction machine faults is commonly realized through Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA), i.e. by classical spectrum analysis of the input currents. In case of large or double cage induction motors, rotor broken bars fault detection based on sideband current components may fail due to the presence of inter bar currents that reduce the degree of rotor asymmetry, leading to reduced relevance of these spectral components. Abstract The present work investigates the features of an active Infrared-NDT Thermography technique derived from a Flying Laser Spot set-up for the analysis of interlaminar disbonds in layered structures in general and Fibre Metal Laminates in particular. In this paper, a new simulation technique which can include microstructural inhomogeneity of particulate reinforced composites is proposed to accurately study deformation pattern and damage mechanism in these composites. Three dimensional microstructures constructed from XCT images incorporated into finite element modeling codes with minimal approximation to capture the effects of cluster size, local volume fraction of particles in the cluster and the distance between clusters as relevant statistical quantities describing the microstructural inhomogeneity of particulate reinforced composites. Stretch-induced Intussuceptive and Sprouting Angiogenesis in the Chick Chorioallantoic Membrane

Vascular systems grow and remodel in response to not only metabolic needs, but also mechanical influences as well. Here, we investigated the influence of tissue-level mechanical forces on the patterning and structure of the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) microcirculation. A dipole stretch field was applied to the CAM using custom computer-controlled servomotors. The topography of the stretch field was mapped using finite element models. After 3 days of stretch, Sholl analysis of the CAM demonstrated a 7-fold increase in conducting vessel intersections within the stretch field (p 0.05). Impact of pericardial effusion on cardiac mechanics in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy

Dilated cardiomyopathy (CDM) is a degenerative disease of the myocardium accompanied by left ventricular (LV) remodeling, resulting in an impaired pump performance. Differently, pericardial effusion(PE) is a liquid accumulation in the pericardial cavity, which may inhibit blood filling of heart chambers. Clinical evidence show that PE may improve pump performance in patients with CDM. Therefore, this study aims to assess wall stress and global function of patients with CDM, PE as compared to healthy patient. Methods: The ANSYS lumbar spine model made from lumbar spine X-rays and magnetic resonance images obtained from cadaveric spine specimens were used. All materials were assumed homogeneous, isotropic, and linearly elastic. We studied three options: intact spine, nucleotomy, and nucleus implant.
