The Frankfurt Parliament (1848–49) was subsequently dismissively referred to as the “Professors’ Parliament” due to its heavy representation of scholars and the academic style of its lengthy discussions. On the semantic interpretation of complex causatives in Finnish: An experimental morphology approach

It is well documented that in some languages, such as in Finnish, it is possible to stack derivational morphemes iteratively to word stems. However, such complex words are seldom used in real communication, and it is unclear whether they are interpreted compositionally in tandem with their morphological structure. Here I studied the matter by eliciting semantic interpretations from ten native speakers of Finnish for words whose complexity and morphemic content were systematically varied. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä oli selvittää englannin kielen roolia pakolaisten kotoutumisessa Suomeen. Erityisesti huomiota kiinnitettiin englannin kielen merkitykseen kahdella kotoutumisen osa-alueella: koulutuksessa ja työelämässä. Lisäksi selvitettiin pakolaisten omia tavoitteita kotoutumiselle. Tutkimukseen osallistui kymmenen (10) täysi-ikäistä pakolaista kolmesta keskisuuresta kaupungista. AbstractThis chapter discusses Finnish quality evaluation in comprehensive education, recognising that it frequently differs from that used by the Global Education Reform Movement (GERM) in most countries. Instead of high-stakes testing of pupil achievement, monitoring or school inspection, Finnish quality evaluation (QE) rests mainly on sample-based national testing and self-evaluations conducted in schools and municipalities. AbstractFinland has, rather successfully, promoted an image of itself as a model of educational excellence and linguistic equity. This chapter problematises this image by analysing Finnish language education policies at the comprehensive school level. For our analysis we use a three-fold understanding of access as; (a) having the opportunity to participate in language education (getting in); (b) participating in education that is meaningful and effective for the pupil (getting it); and (c) receiving credentials that are societally legitimate and valuable assets (getting out).
