Oxazoline functionalization of polyethylenes and their blends with polyamides and polyesters

2001

The compatibilization of blends of polyamide-6 (PA6) with linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with high density polyethylene (HDPE), by functionalization of the polyethylenes with oxazoline groups was investigated. Chemical modification of LLDPE and HDPE was carried out by melt free radical grafting with ricinoloxazoline maleinate. Blends preparation was made either with a two-steps procedure comprising functionalization and blending, and in a single step in which the chemical modification of polyethylene with the oxazoline monomer was realized in situ, during blending. The characterization of the products was carried out by FTIR spectroscopy an…

Oxazoline-containing compatibilizers for polyamide/SAN and polyamide/ABS blends

2002

Polyamide (PA) and acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer (ABS) may appear as a mixture in the recycled plastic stream. The incompatibility of these blends results in a blend with poor mechanical properties. The aim of this work is to partially convert the nitrile groups of the acrylonitrile/styrene copolymer (SAN) into oxazoline groups by reaction with aminoethanol (AE). Such modified SAN (SAN-m) can react with the amine or carboxylic acid end groups of PA, and therefore used as compatibilizers for blends of PA with ABS. SAN-m was found to reduce the SAN-domain size in the PA/SAN-blends. The initial acrylonitrile content of SAN-m had a strong influence on the degree of conversion into o…

The impact of baking on chlorinated paraffins: Characterization of C10–C17 chlorinated paraffins in oven-baked pastry products and unprocessed pastry…

2019

Abstract This study presents an HPLC–ESI–Q–TOF method for simultaneous quantification of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs, C10–13) and an additional characterization of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs, C14–17) in oven-baked pastry products (n = 38) and unprocessed pastry dough material (n = 15). Almost 2 times higher SCCP levels were found in the dough material. ΣSCCP concentrations in products ranged from 0.3 ng g−1 to 23.0 ng g−1 (mean: 6.3 ng g−1), while the results for dough ranged from 5.8 ng g−1 to 22.8 ng g−1 (mean: 12.9 ng g−1). Regardless of the sample matrix, the most abundant CP homologue groups were hepta- and octa-chlorinated undecanes and dodecanes. The avera…

Olefin polymerization and copolymerization by complexes bearing [ONNO]-Type salan ligands: Effect of ligand structure and metal type (titanium, zirco…

2014

A series of novel titanium(IV) complexes bearing tetradentate [ONNO] salan type ligands: [Ti{2,2′-(OC6H3-5-t-Bu)2-NHRNH}Cl2] (Lig1TiCl2: R = C2H4; Lig2TiCl2: R = C4H8; Lig3TiCl2: R = C6H12) and [Ti{2,2′-(OC6H2-3,5-di-t-Bu)2-NHC6H12NH}Cl2] (Lig4TiCl2) were synthesized and used in the (co)polymerization of olefins. Vanadium and zirconium complexes: [M{2,2′-(OC6H3-3,5-di-t-Bu)2-NHC6H12NH}Cl2] (Lig4VCl2: M = V; Lig4ZrCl2: M = Zr) were also synthesized for comparative investigations. All the complexes turned out active in 1-octene polymerization after activation by MAO and/or Al(i-Bu)3/[Ph3C][B(C6F5)4]. The catalytic performance of titanium complexes was strictly dependent on their structures an…

Sub-Finsler Horofunction Boundaries of the Heisenberg Group

2020

We give a complete analytic and geometric description of the horofunction boundary for polygonal sub-Finsler metrics---that is, those that arise as asymptotic cones of word metrics---on the Heisenberg group. We develop theory for the more general case of horofunction boundaries in homogeneous groups by connecting horofunctions to Pansu derivatives of the distance function.

A Primer on Carnot Groups: Homogenous Groups, Carnot-Carathéodory Spaces, and Regularity of Their Isometries

2017

AbstractCarnot groups are distinguished spaces that are rich of structure: they are those Lie groups equipped with a path distance that is invariant by left-translations of the group and admit automorphisms that are dilations with respect to the distance. We present the basic theory of Carnot groups together with several remarks. We consider them as special cases of graded groups and as homogeneous metric spaces. We discuss the regularity of isometries in the general case of Carnot-Carathéodory spaces and of nilpotent metric Lie groups.

Novel ruthenium methylcyclopentadienyl complex bearing a bipyridine perfluorinated ligand shows strong activity towards colorectal cancer cells

2017

Three new compounds have been synthesized and completely characterized by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The new bipyridine-perfluorinated ligand L1 and the new organometallic complex [Ru(η 5 -MeCp)(PPh 3 ) 2 Cl] (Ru1) crystalize in the centrosymmetric triclinic space group P1¯. Analysis of the phenotypic effects induced by both organometallic complexes Ru1 and [Ru(η 5 -MeCp)(PPh 3 )(L1)][CF 3 SO 3 ] (Ru2), on human colorectal cancer cells (SW480 and RKO) survival, showed that Ru2 has a potent anti-proliferative activity, 4–6 times higher than cisplatin, and induce apoptosis in these cells. Data obtained in a noncancerous cell line derived from normal colon epithelial cells (NCM46…

Evaluación de las células de la blastema de aleta caudal como donantes en quimeras intraespecíficas de pez cebra

2008

The blastema is a regenerative tissue with remarkable pluripotency. The aim of this work done on zebrafish (Danio rerio) was to define technical procedures required for obtaining and integrating blastema cells into embryos at the mid blastula transition stage (MBT) and the effect on survival, as well as the capacity to produce pigmented chimaeras. Wild type blastema cells were injected into gold type MBT embryos (E). Wild MBT blastomere cells were also injected into gold type MBT embryos as a control (C1). A second control group, C2, was not subjected to any manipulation. Survival was evaluated at 24, 48 and 72 h after performing the chimaerism, and the rate of adult chimaeras evaluated. Th…

Oxovanadium(IV) complexes with [ONNO]-chelating ligands as catalysts for ethylene homo- and copolymerization

2014

Oxovanadium(IV) complexes with (ONNO)-type tetradentate Schiff base ligands: salen, acacen, aceten, acetph (H2salen = N,N'-ethylenebis(salicylideneimine), H2aceten = N,N'-ethylenebis(2-hydroxyacetophenoneimine), H2acacen = N,N'-ethylenebis(acetylacetonimine), H 2 acetph = N ,N ' -phenylene-1,2-b is (2-hydroxyacetophenoneimine)), were the first time investi- gated in ethylene polymerization and ethylene/1-octene copo- lymerization processes. In general, all these complexes are moderately active precatalyst for ethylene polymerization up- on activation with EtAlCl2 and they give high molecular weight linear polyethylenes. Their activity in copolymeriza- tion was found relatively low. However,…
