The decay of105Tc to levels in105Ru

1975

Theβ−-decay of 7.6-min105Tc has been investigated byβ- andγ-ray singles and coincidence measurements. The activities have been produced by thermal-neutron-induced fission of235U or239Pu and subsequent chemical separation of the technetium fraction from the fission product mixture. AQβ-value of 3.2±0.2 MeV has been determined. In a delayed coincidence experiment the lifetime of the first excited state in105Ru at 20.55 keV has been measured to be 340±15 nsec. A level scheme of105Ru is proposed and compared with the results of recent nuclear reaction studies like104Ru(d, p) and104Ru(n, γ). From beta branching ratios to levels in105Ru, ground state spin and parity of 5/2+ can be suggested for10…

Search for a 2-quasiparticle high-Kisomer inRf256

2011

The energies of 2-quasiparticle (2-qp) states in heavy shell-stabilized nuclei provide information on the single-particle states that are responsible for the stability of superheavy nuclei. We have calculated the energies of 2-qp states in {sup 256}Rf, which suggest that a long-lived, low-energy 8{sup -} isomer should exist. A search was conducted for this isomer through a calorimetric conversion electron signal, sandwiched in time between implantation of a {sup 256}Rf nucleus and its fission decay, all within the same pixel of a double-sided Si strip detector. A 17(5)-{mu}s isomer was identified. However, its low population, {approx}5(2)% that of the ground state instead of the expected {a…

2017

In the EXILL campaign a highly efficient array of high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors was operated at the cold neutron beam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) to carry out nuclear structure studies, via measurements of γ-rays following neutron-induced capture and fission reactions. The setup consisted of a collimation system producing a pencil beam with a thermal capture equivalent flux of about 108 n s−1cm−2 at the target position and negligible neutron halo. The target was surrounded by an array of eight to ten anti-Compton shielded EXOGAM Clover detectors, four to six anti-Compton shielded large coaxial GASP detectors and two standard Clover detectors. For a part of the…

Kr369660 –Low- Z Boundary of the Island of Deformation at N=60

2017

Prompt γ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich $^{96}$Kr, produced in transfer- and fusion-induced fission reactions, has been performed using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array and the VAMOS++ spectrometer. A second excited state, assigned to $J^π$ = $4^+$, is observed for the first time, and a previously reported level energy of the first 2+ excited state is confirmed. The measured energy ratio R4/2 = E($4^+$)/E($2^+$) = 2.12(1) indicates that this nucleus does not show a well-developed collectivity contrary to that seen in heavier N = 60 isotones. This new measurement highlights an abrupt transition of the degree of collectivity as a function of the proton number at Z = …

Asymmetric and symmetric fission of excited nuclei of Hg180,190 and Pb184,192,202 formed in the reactions with Ar36 and Ca40,48 ions

2021

Background: Observation of asymmetric fission of $^{180}\mathrm{Hg}$ has led to intensive theoretical and experimental studies of fission of neutron-deficient nuclei in the lead region.Purpose: The study of asymmetric and symmetric fission modes of $^{180,190}\mathrm{Hg}$ and $^{184,192,202}\mathrm{Pb}$ nuclei. Methods: Mass-energy distributions of fission fragments of $^{180,190}\mathrm{Hg}$ and $^{184}\mathrm{Pb}$ formed in the $^{36}\mathrm{Ar}+^{144,154}\mathrm{Sm}$ and $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}+^{144}\mathrm{Sm}$ reactions, respectively, at energies near the Coulomb barrier have been measured using the double-arm time-of-flight spectrometer CORSET and compared with previously measured $^{192,20…

Mass Yields in the Very Asymmetric Fission of 249Cf(nth,f)

1992

Independent fission yields and fragment kinetic energies in the very asymmetric (A=87−72) fission of 249Cf have been measured using the mass separator LOHENGRIN at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. The mass yields were found to be up to a factor of 100 higher than predicted in the US ENDF-V file. A preliminary evaluation of the isotopic yields shows a strong increase of the proton odd-even effect from 7 % to 15 %. This can be explained by a decreasing excitation energy in this very asymmetric region.

Design of a neutron converter for fission studies at the IGISOL facility

2012

The upgraded IGISOL facility with JYFLTRAP, at the accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, has been supplied with a new cyclotron which will provide proton or deuteron beams of the order of 100 μA with up to 30 MeV energy. This makes it an ideal place for measurements of neutron-induced fission fragments from various actinides, in view of proposed future nuclear fuel cycles. In the present paper, some considerations for the design of a neutron converter, based on simulations with the Monte Carlo codes MCNPX and FLUKA, are described.

First observation ofγrays emitted from excited states south-east ofSn132: Theπg9/2−1⊗νf7/2multiplet ofIn83132

2016

For the first time, the γ decay of excited states has been observed in a nucleus situated in the quadrant south-east of doubly magic Sn132, a region in which experimental information so far is limited to ground-state properties. Six γ rays with energies of 50, 86, 103, 227, 357, and 602 keV were observed following the β-delayed neutron emission from Cd85133, populated in the projectile fission of a U238 beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN within the EURICA project. The new experimental information is compared to the results of a modern realistic shell-model calculation, the first one in this region very far from stability, focusing in particular on the π0g9/2-1 - ν1f7/2 pa…

Isotopic distributions of thermal-neutron-induced fission fragments of near-symmetric fission of Pu239,241 determined using calorimetric low-temperat…

2021

Isotopic distributions were measured for the light fragment group in the transition region from asymmetric to symmetric fission for thermal neutron induced fission of $^{239}\mathrm{Pu}$ and $^{241}\mathrm{Pu}$ using the novel technology of calorimetric low temperature detectors in combination with the passive absorber method. Nuclear charge distributions were determined for 24 masses in the range $A=89$ to $A=112$ for $^{241}\mathrm{Pu}({n}_{\mathrm{th}},f)$ for the first time with the LOHENGRIN mass spectrometer. Moving from asymmetric to symmetric fission, known data were supplemented for masses from $A=110$ to $A=112$ for $^{241}\mathrm{Pu}({n}_{\mathrm{th}},f)$ and from $A=109$ to $A=1…
