The clinical benefits of real time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) use have been well demonstrated in both CSII- and MDI-treated individuals in large clinical trials. However, recommendations for patient use of rtCGM in everyday life situations are lacking. This article provides guidance to clinicians and patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in effective use of rtCGM data, including glucose rate of change (ROC) arrows, for insulin dosing adjustments and other treatment decisions. Synthesis and Photodynamics of Fluorescent Blue BODIPY-Porphyrin Tweezers Linked by Triazole Rings

Novel zinc porphyrin tweezers in which two zinc porphyrins were connected with π-conjugated boron dipyrromethenes (BDP meso-Por(2) and BDP β-Por(2)) through triazole rings were synthesized to investigate the photoinduced energy transfer and electron transfer. The UV-vis spectrum of BDP β-Por(2) which has less bulky substituents than BDP meso-Por(2) exhibits splitting of the Soret band as a result of the interaction between porphyrins of BDP β-Por(2) in the excited state. Quantitative measurements of concentration kinetics of iodine atomic species in a I2+O3 system are possible. The 183.038 nm resonance absorption transition of I(2P3/2) in previously developed EDL has been studied; dependence of self-absorption and self-reversal on iodine partial pressure in the discharge volume has been measured. [EN] The electrochemical and photophysical properties of a family of conjugated ligands and their iridium(III) cyclometallated complexes are described. They consist of a series of monocationic Ir-III bis-2-phenylpyridine complexes with p-phenylethynyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands of different length. The structure of these ligands includes terminal acetylthiol or pyridine groups, which can provide good electrical contacts between metal electrodes. Tyrosine residues appear to be key binding sites in proteins. Review & meta-analysis: isopropanolic black cohosh extract iCR for menopausal symptoms - an update on the evidence

A systematic literature search revealed 35 clinical studies and one meta-analysis comprising 43,759 women, of which 13,096 were treated with isopropanolic Cimicifuga racemosa extract (iCR). Compared to placebo, iCR was significantly superior for treating neurovegetative and psychological menopausal symptoms, with a standardized mean difference of 0.694 in favor of iCR (p<0.0001). Effect sizes were larger when higher dosages of iCR as monotherapy or in combination with St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum [HP]) were given ( 1.020 and 0.999, respectively), suggesting a dose-depend- ency. Abstract Objective The sound-induced flash illusion (SIFI) is a valid paradigm to study multisensorial perception. In the “fission” SIFI, multiple flashes are perceived when observing a single flash paired with two or more beeps. Abstract This paper provides a close reading of Paul Farley’s 160-line poem, “Thorns.” The poem is read in dialogue with William Wordsworth’s celebrated Romantic ballad “The Thorn.” Special attention is given to Farley’s treatment of memory and metaphor: It is shown how the first, exploratory part of the poem elaborates upon the interdependent nature of memory and metaphor, while the second part uses a more regulated form of imagery in its evocation of a generational memory linked to a particular place and time (the working-class Liverpool of the 1960s and 1970s).
