A neutron Time-of-Flight facility (n_TOF) is available at CERN since 2001. The innovative features of the neutron beam, in particular the high instantaneous flux, the wide energy range, the high resolution and the low background, make this facility unique for measurements of neutron induced reactions relevant to the field of Emerging Nuclear Technologies, as well as to Nuclear Astrophysics and Fundamental Nuclear Physics. Depth Enhancement by Fusion for Passive and Active Sensing

This paper presents a general refinement procedure that enhances any given depth map obtained by passive or active sensing. Given a depth map, either estimated by triangulation methods or directly provided by the sensing system, and its corresponding 2-D image, we correct the depth values by separately treating regions with undesired effects such as empty holes, texture copying or edge blurring due to homogeneous regions, occlusions, and shadowing. In this work, we use recent depth enhancement filters intended for Time-of-Flight cameras, and adapt them to alternative depth sensing modalities, both active using an RGB-D camera and passive using a dense stereo camera. When individuals of Drosophila subobscura at 0 hr prepupa are submitted to anoxia (4 hr and 24 hr, respectively), their puffing pattern is very similar to that shown by individuals at the moment of development in which treatment began. The same expression of genes (the same puffing pattern and the same protein pattern) is induced in this species by recovery from anoxia as well as by heat shock treatment at 31 degrees C.
Hybrid Observer for Indoor Localization with Random Time-of-Arrival Measurments

In this work an indoor position estimation algorithm will be proposed. The position will be measured by means of a sensor network composed by fixed beacons placed on the indoor environment and a mobile beacon mounted on the object to be tracked. The mobile beacon communicates with all the fixed beacons by means of ultra wide-band signals, and the distance between them is computed by means of time of flight techniques. Moreover, inertial measurements will be used when the position measurements are not available. Econophysics: Scaling and its breakdown in finance

We discuss recent empirical results obtained by analyzing high-frequency data of a stock market index, the Standard and Poor’s 500. We focus on the scaling properties and on its breakdown of the index dynamics. A simple stochastic model, the truncated Levy flight, is illustrated. Successes and limitations of this model are presented. A discussion about similarities and differences between the scaling properties observed in financial markets and in fully developed turbulence is also provided.

Josephson-based Threshold Detector for Lévy-Distributed Current Fluctuations

We propose a threshold detector for Lévy-distributed fluctuations based on a Josephson junction. The Lévy-noise current added to a linearly ramped bias current results in clear changes in the distribution of switching currents out of the zero-voltage state of the junction. We observe that the analysis of the cumulative distribution function of the switching currents supplies information on both the characteristics' shape parameter α of the Lévy statistics. Moreover, we discuss a theoretical model, which allows characteristic features of the Lévy fluctuations to be extracted from a measured distribution of switching currents. We analyze the effects of different non-Gaussian noise sources on the transient dynamics of an overdamped long Josephson junction. We find nonmonotonic behavior of the mean escape time as a function of the noise intensity and frequency of the external driving signal for all the noise sources investigated.
