Flotation with sedimentation: Steady states and numerical simulation of transient operation
2020
Abstract A spatially one-dimensional model of the hydrodynamics of a flotation column is based on one continuous phase, the fluid, and two disperse phases: the aggregates, that is, bubbles with attached hydrophobic valuable particles, and the solid particles that form the gangue. A common feed inlet for slurry mixture and gas is considered and the bubbles are assumed to be fully aggregated with hydrophobic particles as they enter the column. The conservation law of the three phases yields a model expressed as a system of partial differential equations where the nonlinear constitutive flux functions come from the drift-flux and solids-flux theories. In addition, the total flux functions are …
Simulation and control of dissolved air flotation and column froth flotation with simultaneous sedimentation.
2020
Abstract Flotation is a separation process where particles or droplets are removed from a suspension with the aid of floating gas bubbles. Applications include dissolved air flotation (DAF) in industrial wastewater treatment and column froth flotation (CFF) in wastewater treatment and mineral processing. One-dimensional models of flotation have been limited to steady-state situations for half a century by means of the drift-flux theory. A newly developed dynamic one-dimensional model formulated in terms of partial differential equations can be used to predict the process of simultaneous flotation of bubbles and sedimentation of particles that are not attached to bubbles. The governing model…
Wastewater treatment and reclamation : A review of pulp and paper industry practices and opportunities
2016
The pulp and paper (P&P) industry worldwide has achieved substantial progress in treating both process water and wastewater, thus limiting the discharge of pollutants to receiving waters. This review covers a variety of wastewater treatment methods, which provide P&P companies with cost-effective ways to limit the release of biological or chemical oxygen demand, toxicity, solids, color, and other indicators of pollutant load. Conventional wastewater treatment systems, often comprising primary clarification followed by activated sludge processes, have been widely implemented in the P&P industry. Higher levels of pollutant removal can be achieved by supplementary treatments, which…
“If you seek it, you will find it”. Methodology for the carpological study of the Middle Magdalenian of Cova de les Cendres site (Teulada-Moraira, Al…
2016
2016
The Emperor Basil II (976-1025) made his history by virtue of fact victorious war with Bulgaria and other numerous wars, that were fought during his reign in Asia Minor and the Balkans. However, from the very beginning of his reign, he had to pay attention to the naval forces of his empire. This was due to the fact that part of the fleet supported his opponents, aspiring to the imperial crown. After his victory in the civil war, he did not destroy the rebel fleet, but has entrusted her closer inspection. His state possessed a fleet, which could be attributed to the many activities: the fight against internal and external enemies at sea; military transport between distant points within the e…
De Administrando Imperio Konstantyna Porfirogenety o strukturze naczelnego dowództwa floty bizantyńskiej w pierwszej połowie X wieku
2016
The work of Emperor Constantinos Porphyrogetos "De Administrando Imperio" is an extremely important source for the history of Central and East Europe. We find that, also provides information about top executives, commanding the naval forces of the Byzantine Empire, at the turn of the ninth and tenth centuries. Based on data contained in the DAI, we are able to trace the facts concerning the action of people associated with the Byzantine Navy at the beginning of the reign of the Macedonian dynasty, as well as in which kind of ships and boats was equipped the squadron of Navy subordinate to the emperors.
