Entanglement robustness via spatial deformation of identical particle wave functions

2021

We address the problem of entanglement protection against surrounding noise by a procedure suitably exploiting spatial indistinguishability of identical subsystems. To this purpose, we take two initially separated and entangled identical qubits interacting with two independent noisy environments. Three typical models of environments are considered: amplitude damping channel, phase damping channel and depolarizing channel. After the interaction, we deform the wave functions of the two qubits to make them spatially overlap before performing spatially localized operations and classical communication (sLOCC) and eventually computing the entanglement of the resulting state. This way, we show tha…

Interactive roll stabilization comparative analysis for large yacht: gyroscope versus active fins

2020

The problem of the active stabilization of ship motions is particularly important in the case of pleasure boats or in any case of passenger ships, since the commercial value of the ship is directly related to the comfort of the load transported in this case “people”, considered as stresses induced on them by the vessel movements, with particular attention to roll, given the ship geometric characteristics. Naval architects developed trough the years different solutions to reduce the roll of the ship, and consequentially to increase the passengers comfort, and the development of this solutions followed the progress of technology. Active fins have been the most used, but now the gyroscope solu…

Non-equilibrium thermodynamics, heat transport and thermal waves in laminar and turbulent superfluid helium

2018

This review paper puts together some results concerning non equilibrium thermodynamics and heat transport properties of superfluid He II. A one-fluid extended model of superfluid helium, which considers heat flux as an additional independent variable, is presented, its microscopic bases are analyzed, and compared with the well known two-fluid model. In laminar situations, the fundamental fields are density, velocity, absolute temperature, and heat flux. Such a theory is able to describe the thermomechanical phenomena, the propagation of two sounds in liquid helium, and of fourth sound in superleak. It also leads in a natural way to a two-fluid model on purely macroscopical grounds and allow…

Technologies Applied to the Improvement of Academic Performance in the Teaching-Learning Process in Secondary Students

2020

The use of active methodologies and educational technologies can improve the academic performance of Secondary students in Physics, and it is one of the most predominant subjects in the field of engineering. This article describes a proposal of Physics activities that use various digital and technological tools incorporated into problem solving. This proposal was carried out in the subject of Physics and Chemistry of 3° of Compulsory Secondary Education (14–16 years) with 35 students (12 boys and 23 girls), forming two groups. The result of the implementation in the classroom was an improvement in the academic performance of the entire student body, being more appreciable in girls and in ge…

Electron Emission of Pt: Experimental Study and Comparison With Models in the Multipactor Energy Range

2016

Experimental data of secondary emission yield (SEY) and electron emission spectra of Pt under electron irradiation for normal incidence and primary energies lower than 1 keV are presented. Several relevant magnitudes, as total SEY, elastic backscattering probability, secondary emission spectrum, and backscattering coefficient, are given for different primary energies. These magnitudes are compared with theoretical or semiempirical formulas commonly used in the related literature.

Solid sediment transport in turbulent channel flow over irregular rough boundaries

2017

Abstract The presence of a loading of dispersed particles in a turbulent flow affects the dynamics of the carrier flow field which, in turn, drives grains movement. The focus of the paper is on the analysis of the coupling effects between near-bed turbulence structures and the dynamics of dispersed suspended solid particles in wall-bounded turbulent multiphase flows. We consider turbulent horizontal channel flows bounded by rough boundaries. The friction Reynolds number of the unladen flow is R e τ = 180 and the dispersed phase spans one order of magnitude of particle diameter. To analyze sedimentation and suspended phase transport, we adopt concepts and modeling ideas derived from the Eule…

Dissection of C1q Capability of Interacting with IgG

1997

Abstract C1q-bearing immune complexes have been observed in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and human immunodeficiency virus infection-associated neuropathy. For the purpose of understanding better the phenomenon of C1q-bearing immune complexes, we investigated the constancy of the C1q-IgG interaction. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was developed in which wells were coated with IgG to mimic antigen-complexed IgG. Serial dilutions of C1q were applied for distinct time intervals, and bound C1q was detected either directly or after exposure to one of several elution buffers. Our results show that a part of C1q attached to IgG forms a tight association that is not reversible under t…

A new approach to fuzzy sets: Application to the design of nonlinear time series, symmetry-breaking patterns, and non-sinusoidal limit-cycle oscillat…

2019

Abstract It is shown that characteristic functions of sets can be made fuzzy by means of the B κ -function, recently introduced by the author, where the fuzziness parameter κ ∈ R controls how much a fuzzy set deviates from the crisp set obtained in the limit κ → 0. As applications, we present first a general expression for a switching function that may be of interest in electrical engineering and in the design of nonlinear time series. We then introduce another general expression that allows wallpaper and frieze patterns for every possible planar symmetry group (besides patterns typical of quasicrystals) to be designed. We show how the fuzziness parameter κ plays an analogous role to temper…

Explicit Granger causality in kernel Hilbert spaces

2020

Granger causality (GC) is undoubtedly the most widely used method to infer cause-effect relations from observational time series. Several nonlinear alternatives to GC have been proposed based on kernel methods. We generalize kernel Granger causality by considering the variables cross-relations explicitly in Hilbert spaces. The framework is shown to generalize the linear and kernel GC methods, and comes with tighter bounds of performance based on Rademacher complexity. We successfully evaluate its performance in standard dynamical systems, as well as to identify the arrow of time in coupled R\"ossler systems, and is exploited to disclose the El Ni\~no-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon f…
