Competition of Direct and Indirect Sources of Thermal Entanglement in a spin star network
2017
A spin star system consisting of three peripheral two-state systems and a central one is considered, with the peripheral spins assumed to interact with each other, as well as with the central one. It is shown that such two couplings, each one being a thermal entanglement source, can significantly compete in the formation of quantum correlations in the thermal state, to the point that they can destroy any thermal entanglement of the peripheral spins.
Application of modulated calorimetry to the Liquid metals using electromagnetic levitation and static magnetic field
2018
Measurement of the thermophysical properties of liquid metals is challenging because of their high chemical activity and high temperatures. The electromagnetic levitation allows one to hold the electrically conductive liquid sample containerless in an inert atmosphere in thermal equilibrium while measurements on the sample can be taken in a non-contact way followed by extraction of some thermophysical properties. Yet, the electromagnetic forces within the skin layer inside the sample cause convective flow of the liquid thus disabling the data extraction. A static magnetic field imposed over a sample is known to damp the convective flow. With these ideas, an experimental set-up with a DC mag…
Thermodynamic formalism and linear response theory for non-equilibrium steady states
2016
We study the linear response in systems driven away from thermal equilibrium into a nonequilibrium steady state with nonvanishing entropy production rate. A simple derivation of a general response formula is presented under the condition that the generating function describes a transformation that (to lowest order) preserves normalization and thus describes a physical stochastic process. For Markov processes we explicitly construct the conjugate quantities and discuss their relation with known response formulas. Emphasis is put on the formal analogy with thermodynamic potentials and some consequences are discussed.
Coexistence of active Brownian disks: van der Waals theory and analytical results
2020
At thermal equilibrium, intensive quantities like temperature and pressure have to be uniform throughout the system, restricting inhomogeneous systems composed of different phases. The paradigmatic example is the coexistence of vapor and liquid, a state that can also be observed for active Brownian particles steadily driven away from equilibrium. Recently, a strategy has been proposed that allows to predict phase equilibria of active particles [Solon et al., Phys. Rev. E 97, 020602(R) (2018)2470-004510.1103/PhysRevE.97.020602]. Here we elaborate on this strategy and formulate it in the framework of a van der Waals theory for active disks. For a given equation of state, we derive the effecti…
Microcanonical Determination of the Interface Tension of Flat and Curved Interfaces from Monte Carlo Simulations
2012
The investigation of phase coexistence in systems with multi-component order parameters in finite systems is discussed, and as a generic example, Monte Carlo simulations of the two-dimensional q-state Potts model (q=30) on LxL square lattices (40<=L<=100) are presented. It is shown that the microcanonical ensemble is well-suited both to find the precise location of the first order phase transition and to obtain an accurate estimate for the interfacial free energy between coexisting ordered and disordered phases. For this purpose, a microcanonical version of the heatbath algorithm is implemented. The finite size behaviour of the loop in the curve describing the inverse temperature vers…
Hydrothermal processes with REE enrichment in Fuerteventura carbonatites: evidences in accessory minerals
2021
Oxygen uptake kinetics and energy system's contribution around maximal lactate steady state swimming intensity
2017
Made available in DSpace on 2018-11-26T17:20:55Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2017-02-28 Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Ministry of Education of Brazil The purpose of this study was to examine the oxygen uptake ((V) over dotO(2)) kinetics and the energy systems' contribution at 97.5, 100 and 102.5% of the maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) swimming intensity. Ten elite female swimmers performed three-to-five 30 min submaximal constant swimming bouts at imposed paces for the determination of the swimming velocity (v) at 100% MLSS based on a 7 x 200 m intermittent incremental protocol until voluntary exhaustion to find the v associated…
Cultured Ito cells of rat liver express the alpha 2-macroglobulin gene.
1987
Ito cells were isolated from rat liver and kept in culture for up to 13 days. The capability of the Ito cells to synthesize a2-macroglobulin was analyzed at different times after isolation and by pulse-chase experiments. Newly synthesized a2-macroglobulin was determined by immunoprecipitation followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate/ polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and fluorography. a2-Macroglobulin synthesis was hardly detectable in Ito cells and their media 3 days after plating. However, 5 - 11 days after the isolation of the cells, increasing amounts of a2-macroglobulin were synthesized. The results of pulse-chase experiments performed on day 7 showed that radioactively labeled a2-macroglob…
Fractional viscoelastic behaviour under stochastic temperature process
2018
Abstract This paper deals with the mechanical behaviour of a linear viscoelastic material modelled by a fractional Maxwell model and subject to a Gaussian stochastic temperature process. Two methods are introduced to evaluate the response in terms of strain of a material under a deterministic stress and subjected to a varying temperature. In the first approach the response is determined making the material parameters change at each time step, due to the temperature variation. The second method, takes advantage of the Time–Temperature Superposition Principle to lighten the calculations. In this regard, a stochastic characterisation for the Time–Temperature Superposition Principle method is p…
Digitizing data acquisition and time-of-flight pulse processing for ToF-ERDA
2016
A versatile system to capture and analyze signals from multi channel plate (MCP) based time-of-flight detectors and ionization based energy detectors such as silicon diodes and gas ionization chambers (GIC) is introduced. The system is based on commercial digitizers and custom software. It forms a part of a ToF-ERDA spectrometer, which has to be able to detect recoil atoms of many different species and energies. Compared to the currently used analogue electronics the digitizing system provides comparable time-of-flight resolution and improved hydrogen detection efficiency, while allowing the operation of the spectrometer be studied and optimized after the measurement. The hardware, data acq…
