Tuning of the electronic and photophysical properties of ladder-type quaterphenyl by selective methylene-bridge fluorination

The photophysics (spectral positions, band shapes, fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes) of a series of fluorinated ladder type quaterphenyls L4P and L4P-Fn (n = 2, 4, 6) depend strongly on the degree and position of fluorine, despite the fact that substitution is not performed in the rings but only in methylene-bridges. This is driven by subtle differences in the molecular orbitals (MOs) participating in the electronic transitions, and in the vibronic pattern of the S0 and S1 electronic states as revealed by (TD)DFT calculations. The aim of this study was to explore the usefulness of human blood dendritic cells (DC) in the development of an in vitro model for predictive testing of contact sensitizers. A method was established to monitor the influence of chemicals on the intracellular targeting of antibody-crosslinked MHC class II molecules after their uptake by human DC. Using a three-colour flow-cytometric technique, freshly prepared DC were distinguished from other MHC class II-bearing cell types such as B-cells and monocytes in unseparated mononuclear cell suspensions of healthy volunteers. Abstract Among the anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic Abs (ANCA), those targeting proteinase 3 (PR3) have a high sensitivity and specificity for Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG). The ferrocene-triazole derivative 4, available from 1,1'-bis(diazido)ferrocene by sequential functionalization through click-type chemistry and the Staudinger reaction, is elaborated as a lab-on-a-molecule for the selective sensing of HP(2)O(7)(3-) and Hg(2+). Receptor 4 behaves as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for HP(2)O(7)(3-) with a good selectivity over other anions, whereas in the presence of Hg(2+) it modifies the fluorescent emission of the pyrene unit, acting as a selective on-off fluorescent sensor for Hg(2+) with a low detection limit. Laser spectroscopy of radioactive Ti, Zr and Hf isotopes and isomers at the JYFL laser-IGISOL facility

Abstract The recent progress at the laser-ion guide isotope separator on-line facility, JYFL, is presented. At the facility new techniques for studying short-lived radioisotopes by laser spectroscopy have been developed and applied to the study of isotopes in refractory metal elements. In particular, recent results on the spectroscopy of cooled ion beams of radioactive Ti, Zr and Hf isotopes are discussed.

Josephson-based Threshold Detector for Lévy-Distributed Current Fluctuations

We propose a threshold detector for Lévy-distributed fluctuations based on a Josephson junction. The Lévy-noise current added to a linearly ramped bias current results in clear changes in the distribution of switching currents out of the zero-voltage state of the junction. We observe that the analysis of the cumulative distribution function of the switching currents supplies information on both the characteristics' shape parameter α of the Lévy statistics. Moreover, we discuss a theoretical model, which allows characteristic features of the Lévy fluctuations to be extracted from a measured distribution of switching currents.
