Fluorescence and amplified spontaneous emission of glass forming compounds containing styryl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene fragment

2012

Potential of glassy films of newly synthesised low molecular weight organic molecules for light amplification and lasing applications has been investigated by analysing fluorescence, transient differential absorption and amplified spontaneous emission properties. These non-symmetric and symmetric molecules contain styryl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene fragment with three different electron acceptor groups: dicyanomethylene, barbituric acid, indene-1,3-dione. Fluorescence quantum yields of the investigated compounds in solutions are between 0.32 and 0.54, while they drop down by an order of magnitude in thin solid films. Incorporation of bulky side groups reduced excitonic interactions enabling manifest…

Molecular beacon strategies for sensing purpose

2021

Abstract The improvement of nucleic acid probes as vital molecular engineering devices will cause a noteworthy contribution to developments in bioimaging, biosensing, and disorders diagnosis. The molecular beacon (MB) which was designed by Tyagi and Kramer in 1996, are loop-stem hairpin-designed oligonucleotides armed with a quencher and a dye (also named reporter groups) at the 3′ or 5′ ends. This construction allows that MBs in the absence of their target complementary molecules do not fluoresce. Through hybridization with their specific targets a spontaneous configuration change on MBs occur and the dye and quencher separate from each other, resulting in emitting the fluorescence. MBs ar…

Molecular structures and vibrations of m-methylaniline in the S0 and S1 states studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy and ab initio calcu…

2000

Abstract The UV fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of a jet-cooled m-methylaniline have been obtained for the S1←S0 transition, in which some of the bands have been observed for the first time. The main spectral bands have been assigned by comparison with those of other relevant substituted benzenes. It was found that the spectra exhibit an important feature which is the internal rotation of the methyl group in the electronic ground and excited states. Ab initio calculations at MP2/6-31G* and CIS/6-31G* show that the optimized structure of m-methylaniline in the ground state is not planar with the amino group having sp3 hybridation-like character due to the existence…

Extrinsicvs.intrinsic luminescence and their interplay with spin crossover in 3D Hofmann-type coordination polymers

2020

The research of new multifunctional materials, as those undergoing spin crossover (SCO) and luminescent properties, is extremely important in the development of further optical and electronic switching devices. As a new step towards this ambitious aim, the coupling of SCO and fluorescence is presented here following two main strategies: whether the fluorescent agent is integrated as a part of the main structure of a 3D SCO coordination polymer {FeII(bpan)[MI(CN)2]2} (bpan = bis(4-pyridyl)anthracene, MI = Ag (FebpanAg), Au (FebpanAu)) or is a guest molecule inserted within the cavities of the 3D switchable framework {FeII(bpb)[MI(CN)2]2}·pyrene (bpb = bis(4-pyridyl)butadiyne, MI = Ag (FebpbA…

Intercorrelation between Structural Ordering and Emission Properties in Photoconducting Polymers

2009

We investigated the structural properties of anthracene containing poly(p-phenylene−ethynylene)-alt-poly(p-phenylene−vinylene) polymers with general constitutional unit: (−Ph−C≡C−Anthr−C≡C−Ph−CH═CH−Ph−CH═CH−)n by means of wide-angle X-ray scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy. Interchain interactions were systematically modified by decorating the conjugated polymer backbone with linear or branched or combinations of linear and branched alkoxy side chains. Special emphasis is taken on an evaluation method for fiber scattering spectra that allows the deduction of important structural details of polymer materials with limited degree of order. These include positional correlations along the …

Poly(9,10-dihydroanthrylenetrimethylene) (2) comprises a novel chain-type structure in which 9,10-dihydroanthracene units are linked by flexible spacer groups. Upon dehydrogenation with sulfur at elevated temperature, polymer 2 is converted into the corresponding polyanthrylene system 3. NMR- and UV-spectroscopic data provide firm evidence for the dehydrogenation process. The polymer 3 was subjected to reduction with active lithium, and the resulting polyanions were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and by quenching experiments. It appears that each anthracene unit of the chain can be charged with two electrons.

The pH-responsive nature of two self-assembled NDI-peptide amphiphile conjugates is reported. The diethoxy substituted NDI showed a pH-dependent assembly behaviour, as expected. In contrast, the isopropylamino- and ethoxy-substituted NDI based supramolecular polymer was stable at acidic and basic aqueous conditions. This finding highlights how subtle changes in the molecular design of π-stacked chromophore-peptide conjugates have a drastic impact on their equilibrium structure and ultimately functional properties.

Temperature-responsive inclusion complex of cationic PNIPAAM diblock copolymer and γ-cyclodextrin

2012

Aqueous mixtures of γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) and the thermosensitive cationic diblock copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-b-poly(3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride (PNIPAAM24-b-PAMPTAM(+)9) or the PNIPAAM homopolymer PNIPAAM47 have been investigated using various experimental methods. Solid γ-CD–polymer inclusion complexes (pseudopolyrotaxanes) form at ambient temperatures in fairly concentrated CD solutions. The NMR measurements showed that the stoichiometry of the inclusion complexes is close to two NIPAAM units per CD molecule. The cationic block of the copolymer is not incorporated into the CD cavity. Synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction spectra of the solid inclusion compl…

Palladium(II) sequestration by phytate in aqueous solution. Speciation analysis and ionic medium effects.

2010

Environmental context. In the last 20 years, the demand for palladium and other platinum-group elements has intensified, causing a significant increase in their concentration in the environment, with particular accumulation in urban areas. Knowledge about Pd2+ speciation in aqueous media is fundamental for the understanding of its biological and environmental activity in contaminated areas. Phytic acid appears to be a good sequestering agent towards Pd2+ under various conditions, indicating its potential use in the remediation of contaminated sites. Abstract. Palladium(II) speciation in the presence of phytate (Phy12–) was studied by H+ ion selective electrode (ISE) potentiometry at 25°C in…

Supramolecular assemblies of phenyl-pyridyl-triazolopyridine and β-cyclodextrin as sensor of divalent cations in aqueous solution

2014

The chemosensor 3-phenyl-7-(pyrid-2-yl)-[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine (PhPTP) used in combination with two different cyclodextrins, enable its solubilization and stabilization in aqueous solution. The behavior of the inclusion complex, and its binding ability in both cyclodextrins were investigated by means of absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The best results were obtained for PhPTP-DMβCD assembly, and its orientation in the DMβCD nano cavity was obtained by 2D-NMR. This inclusion geometry was confirmed by docking studies. The binary complex was proved as chemosensor upon the presence of different divalent cations in aqueous solutions. The PhPTP-DMβCD system, displays a high sensi…
