Identification, by UV absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, of the …
Optical Switching and Antenna Effect of Dendrimers with an Anthracene Core
2007
Dendrimers 6G(i) (i=1-4) consisting of an anthracene core and Fréchet dendrons which are attached via a CH(2)OCH(2) chain in the 9-position undergo quantitative and completely reversible intramolecular [4pi+4pi] cycloaddition. The process can be monitored by absorption and fluorescence measurements. The Fréchet dendrons act as an energy funnel that collects and focuses the photon energy but does not change the photostationary states, which for both directions are completely on the product side when the separate chromophores are selectively irradiated. The quantum yields of anthracene fluorescence and of singlet energy transfer from the dendrons to the core were studied as a function of dend…
Anthracene Fluorescence Quenching by a Tetrakis (Ketocarboxamide) Cavitand
2014
Quenching of both fluorescence lifetime and fluorescence intensity of anthracene was investigated in the presence of a newly derived tetrakis (ketocarboxamide) cavitand at various concentrations. Time-correlated single photon counting method was applied for the lifetime measurements. A clear correlation between the fluorescence lifetime of anthracene as a function of cavitand concentration in dimethylformamide solution was observed. The bimolecular collisional quenching constant was derived from the decrease of lifetime. Fluorescence intensity was measured in the emission wavelength region around 400 nm as a result of excitation at 280 nm. Effective quenching was observed in the presence of…
Fine tuning of the photophysical properties of cofacial diporphyrins via the use of different spacers
2002
The crystal and molecular structures of two unmetallated diporphyrin species using the biphenylene and dibenzofuran spacers, H4(DPB) and H4(DPO), respectively (DPB 4 − =1,8-bis[5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethylporphyrinyl)]biphenylene; DPO 4 − =4,6-bis[5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethylporphyrinyl)]dibenzofuran), are reported. These data are compared to their literature metallated analogs, stressing on the properties related to the flexibility of the ligands, ··· and M···M interactions. In addition, the lowest energy fluorescence properties of these non-phosphorescent diporphyrin compounds as well as three other related species, H4(DPA), H4(DPX), and H4(DPS) (DPA 4 − …
Potentiometric, NMR, and Fluorescence-Emission Studies on the Binding of Adenosine 5′-Triphosphate (ATP) by Open-Chain Polyamine Receptors Containing…
2003
The interaction in aqueous solution of adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP) with a series of open-chain polyamines linked at one or both ends to anthrylmethyl or naphthylmethyl fragments was followed by potentiometric titration, 1H-, 13C-, and 31P-NMR spectroscopy, and by steady-state fluorescence measurements. The results revealed greater stabilities for the compounds containing one anthracene moiety than for those with one naphthalene moiety, the stabilities of the compounds with both ends N-substituted with naphthylmethyl groups being close to those containing just one anthrylmethyl unit. The 1H-NMR spectra showed that in all systems, there is involvement of π-π stacking interactions in the s…

The co-ordination capabilities toward hydrogen ions, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+ of the novel receptor 2,6,9,13-tetraaza[14](9,10)anthracenophane (L) and of its open-chain counterpart N-(3-aminopropyl)-N′-3-(anthracen-9-ylmethyl)aminopropylethane-1,2-diamine (L1) is described. Stepwise protonation constants of the cyclic receptor (L) are lower than those of the open-chain receptor (L1) . Quenching effects of the fluorescence emission occur upon first and second deprotonation of L and upon second deprotonation of L1. Stability constants of the Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+ complexes follow the Irving–Williams trend and are intermediate between those of triethylenetetraamine with termin…
Switching from intramolecular energy transfer to intramolecular electron transfer by the action of pH and Zn2+ co-ordination
2002
Abstract Intramolecular electron (eT) and energy transfer (ET) have shown to occur in a covalently linked donor–acceptor (CLDA) system consisting of a naphthalene donor covalently linked through a polyamine chain connector to an anthracene acceptor; the connector has been chosen in order to switch ON or OFF the energy flux as a function of its protonation state as well as by co-ordination to Zn 2+ . The largest energy transfer efficiency ( η =0.61) occurs for the fully protonated form (pH 9 (eT) from the lone pairs of the nitrogens to the excited fluorophore takes place, leading to complete quenching of the emission. On the other hand at neutral and basic pH values, co-ordination of Zn 2+ p…
Dendron to central core S1-S1 and S2-S(n) (n1) energy transfers in artificial special pairs containing dendrimers with limited numbers of conformatio…

Two dendrimers consisting of a cofacial free-base bisporphyrin held by a biphenylene spacer and function- alized with 4-benzeneoxomethane (5-(4-benzene)tri-10,15,20-(4-n-octyl- benzene)zinc(II)porphyrin) using either five or six of the six available meso-positions, have been synthesized and characterized as models for the an- tenna effect in Photosystems I and II. The presence of the short linkers, -CH2O-, and long C8H17 soluble side chains substantially reduces the number of conformers (foldamers) compared with classic dendrimers built with longer flexible chains. This simpli- fication assists in their spectroscopic and photophysical analysis, notably with respect to fluorescence resonance…
Intramolecular electronic excitation energy transfer in donor∕acceptor dyads studied by time and frequency resolved single molecule spectroscopy
2008
Electronic excitation energy transfer has been studied by single molecule spectroscopy in donor/acceptor dyads composed of a perylenediimide donor and a terrylenediimide acceptor linked by oligo(phenylene) bridges of two different lengths. For the shorter bridge (three phenylene units) energy is transferred almost quantitatively from the donor to the acceptor, while for the longer bridge (seven phenylene units) energy transfer is less efficient as indicated by the occurrence of donor and acceptor emission. To determine energy transfer rates and efficiencies at the single molecule level, several methods have been employed. These comprise time-correlated single photon counting techniques at r…
Characterization of liver cytokeratin as a major target antigen of anti-SLA antibodies.
1990
Abstract Anti-SLA antibodies characterize a newly defined subgroup of patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. The aim of the present study was the immunochemical characterization of the target antigen(s) of anti-SLA antibodies. Anti-SLA-positive sera were found to contain high titres of anti-cytokeratin antibodies. In immunoblotting analyses with 100 000 × g supernatants of human liver homogenates (S-100) these sera recognized various proteins with a molecular mass of 40–60 kDa. These proteins were also recognized by monoclonal anti-cytokeratin antibodies. Two-dimensional co-electrophoresis and immunoblotting analysis of S-100 and liver cytokeratins showed that anti-SLA antibodie…
