Diffractive optics for quasi-direct space-to-time pulse shaping.

The strong chromatic behavior associated with a conventional diffractive lens is fully exploited to propose a novel optical device for pulse shaping in the femtosecond regime. This device consists of two optical elements: a spatially patterned circularly symmetric mask and a kinoform diffractive lens, which are facing each other. The system performs a mapping between the spatial position of the masking function expressed in the squared radial coordinate and the temporal position in the output waveform. Cloaking elastic waves has, in contrast to the cloaking of electromagnetic waves, remained a fundamental challenge: the latter successfully uses the invariance of Maxwell's equations, from which the field of transformational optics has emerged, whereas the elastic Navier equations are not invariant under coordinate transformations. In 2007 the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) made an historic ruling allowing foreign registrants to file IFRS-based financial statements without reconciling to U.S. GAAP. With that decision, the SEC changed its longstanding practice of adhering to a single set of accounting standards in the U.S. The decision diminishes the standing of two previously powerful institutions: U.S. GAAP and the SEC itself. The objective of this chapter is to define an operationalization pattern which supports decision makers and managers in determining the level of manufacturing flexibility competences, given the business strategy and the manufacturing structure of the firm. This should drive the production system design and configuration activity. Specifically, this chapter presents an innovative approach to develop a manufacturing strategy, which is based on the idea that information on potential production problems that the manufacturing system could face throughout a given long-term planning horizon should be used as a starting point to determine the level of flexibility that the system should possess.
Focal waveforms with tunable carrier frequency using dispersive aperturing

We introduce the concept of dispersive aperturing involving a beam truncation by hard-edge apertures where diameter of the processed beam changes upon frequency. Applied to focused waves, this procedure transforms power spectra at the focal point (and the surroundings). Waveforms at focus conserve pulse duration but carrier frequency may be altered substantially. In principle, some degrees of freedom allow carrier-frequency tuning at convenience.
