From [emotion] to [against will]: the Process of Grammaticalization of malgrat in the 12th-16th centuries

2018

Human traffickers frequently take advantage of operative protocols that make them unpunishable pursuant the Italian Criminal Law because according to Art. 6 of the Italian Penal Code and International Convention on the High Sea jurisdictional powers cannot be exercised when the conduct is committed on the High Sea. So illustrating the territorial limitations of the efficacy of Criminal Law the research focuses on the hermeneutical solution given by the Court of Cassation that apparently with the intent of pursuing a more effectivity of the Criminal response recurred to the controversial category of the indirect offender in order to sanction smuggling conducts that enjoy the rescue intervention of the Italian authorities to reach their criminal aims. In turn in order to better identify the Italian jurisdiction in the crime of Art. 12 T.U. imm. I propose to correctly apply the concorso di persone (art. 110 c.p.) and the reato eventualmente permanente. The difficulties of a dogmatic framing together with the trend towards a universalistic validity of the jurisdictional powers when human rights are involved may recommend an interpretation of Art. 7 of the Italian Penal Code to cover a wider protection of human rights according to interpretive solutions of § 6 of the German Penal Code.Settore IUS/17 - Diritto Penale

La vocalidad del violín en el norte de Italia en torno a 1600

2021

Throughout the present research I intend to demonstrate the powerful link between the vocal practice in accompanied monody and the way Early Italian violin music ought to be interpreted. Due to the scarce amount of articulation and ornamentation in this music, I consider that historical criteria should be found in order to back up the subjective choices in its performance. According to this, I focus on reviewing sources that describe the vocal practice around 1600, but also contemporary sources in which we can find instructions addressed to bow instruments. Besides, a catalogue of articulations and ornamentations present in early editions of printed violin music is attached. Last, I comment…

Computer-Assisted Approaches for Uterine Fibroid Segmentation in MRgFUS Treatments: Quantitative Evaluation and Clinical Feasibility Analysis

2019

Nowadays, uterine fibroids can be treated using Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery (MRgFUS), which is a non-invasive therapy exploiting thermal ablation. In order to measure the Non-Perfused Volume (NPV) for treatment response assessment, the ablated fibroid areas (i.e., Region of Treatment, ROT) are manually contoured by a radiologist. The current operator-dependent methodology could affect the subsequent follow-up phases, due to the lack of result repeatability. In addition, this fully manual procedure is time-consuming, considerably increasing execution times. These critical issues can be addressed only by means of accurate and efficient automated Pattern Recognition ap…

Image Processing Techniques For the Detection and Classification of Man Made Objects in Side-Scan Sonar Images

2011

This is a review chapter that surveys past work in, and the recent status of image processing and other related techniques involved in the detection and classification of man made objects in side scan sonar images. Side scan sonar is a readily, available and cheap device which has found increasing applications, specially for military purposes such as Computer Aided Detection (CAD) and Classification (CAC) of mines. Therefore the main focus of the chapter is on this topic. The list of references is sufficiently complete to include most past and recent publications in the open refereed literature. Although side scan sonar displays many features similar to an optical sensor from a purely image…

Approaches to find complementary separation conditions for resolving complex mixtures by high-performance liquid chromatography

2012

Chromatographic problems are usually addressed trying to find out a single experimental condition aimed to resolve all compounds in the sample. However, very often, the chromatographic system is not able to provide full resolution. When a separation fails, the usual choice is introducing a drastic change in the chromatographic system (e.g. column, solvent, pH). There are, however, other possibilities that take advantage of the gathered information in the failed separation, without the need of new experiments, based on the concept of complementary separations (e.g. isocratic mobile phases, gradients, columns, chromatographic modes). One separation condition will focus on the resolution of so…

Les exclus de la mobilité : de l'observation à la décision

2014

In contemporary societies, mobility is considered as a social norm necessary for integration. Conversely, immobility is often seen as the opposite. Therefore, it is associated with a significant risk of exclusion. An approach in terms of exclusion involves a sociological orientation. Nevertheless, this thesis follows a geographical approach. Thus, a first question emerges from this disciplinary position: immobility is it a geographical object? Furthermore, it is possible to consider the mobility and immobility as equivalent and not opposed. This means that their impact may not be reversed. This position engages a second question: the relationship between immobility and exclusion is it legit…

Clinical Use of κ Free Light Chains Index as a Screening Test for Multiple Sclerosis.

2020

Abstract Objective To assess the usefulness of the κ free light chain index (κFLCi) as a screening test to identify patients with suspected MS. Methods The study included 56 patients with a request to test for oligoclonal bands (OCBs). OCBs were detected by isoelectric focusing, followed by immunofixation. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum κFLC were measured by a turbidimetric assay. Also, the κFLC index (κFLCi) was calculated. Results CSF κFLC levels and κFLCi were significantly higher in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) than in patients with other neurological diseases (NDs; P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). At the cutoff value of 2.9, the κFLCi detected MS with s…

Synthesis and expression of MHC class II molecules in the absence of attached invariant chains by recombinant-interferon-gamma-activated bone-marrow-…

1987

Pure populations of in vitro propagated bone marrow-derived macrophages are constitutively Ia negative. Co-culturing of these cells with recombinant interferon-gamma (rIFN-gamma) resulted in the appearance of high amounts of Ia antigens at the cell surface of essentially all cells. The continuous presence of the stimulus was a prerequisite for sustained Ia expression because removal of the stimulus resulted in rapid decline of surface Ia. Two-dimensional (2D) gel analysis (1D isoelectric focusing, 2D sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) of class II molecules synthesized by rIFN-gamma-stimulated bone marrow macrophages (BMM phi) revealed that, in contrast to class II co…
