Efficient mesoscale hydrodynamics: Multiparticle collision dynamics with massively parallel GPU acceleration

Abstract We present an efficient open-source implementation of the multiparticle collision dynamics (MPCD) algorithm that scales to run on hundreds of graphics processing units (GPUs). We especially focus on optimizations for modern GPU architectures and communication patterns between multiple GPUs. We show that a mixed-precision computing model can improve performance compared to a fully double-precision model while still providing good numerical accuracy. We report weak and strong scaling benchmarks of a reference MPCD solvent and a benchmark of a polymer solution with research-relevant interactions and system size. Abstract Most optical defect localization techniques such as dynamic laser stimulation or photon emission microscopy require a pattern image of the device to be taken. The main purpose is for device navigation, but it also enables the analyst to identify the location of the monitored activity by superimposing it onto the pattern image. The defect localization workflow usually starts at low or medium magnification. At these scales, several factors can lead to a lack of orthogonality of the sample with the optical axis of the system. This qualitative case study explores potential and actual barriers that hinder teachers’ professional development in Ethiopian schools. Occurrence and Heterogeneity of Chymotrypsin Inhibitors in Vegetative Tissues of Barley

Inhibitors of chymotrypsin and the alkaline proteinase of Aspergillus oryzae were present in the shoots of barley seedlings and weak activities were also detected in the shoot tops of 6-week-old plants. Treatments which induce inhibitor formation in tomato and potato leaves had no effect when tested on mature leaves, seedlings, or young tillers of barley. Fractionation experiments with isoelectric focusing showed that the barley leaves contained several proteinase inhibitors acting on both chymotrypsin and the Aspergillus proteinase, and one inhibitor which acted only on the Aspergillus enzyme.
