Humic acid reduces gonadotropin activity and hormonal sensitivity of frog oocytes

2005

The specific stimulatory effect of sturgeon Acipenser güldenstädti Br. gonadotropic hormone (GTH) on frog Rana temporaria L. oocyte maturation in vitro was investigated in relation to humic acid (HA) concentrations from 12.5 to 50 mg/l. HA was observed to bind to both the follicular membrane of the oocytes and the GTH molecule, reducing the oocytes' hormone sensitivity and maturation ability. It was also shown that HA inactivated GTH, lowering its specific ability to stimulate oocyte maturation.

Nationwide interobserver variation in the diagnosis of follicular lymphoma: a report from the pathologists of GISL (Gruppo Italiano Studio Linfomi)

2005

Interobserver variability may occur in FL diagnosis, even when the diagnosis is performed by expert haematopathologists. Very limited informations are currently available on the reliability of FL diagnosis performed in laboratories on a national scale, where the lymphoma diagnosis is not always carried on by expert haematopathologists. In this study, the reproducibility of the FL diagnosis and related grading system was tested by a group of pathologists members of the Gruppo Italiano Studio Linfomi (GISL).

Differential miRNA expression defines migration and reduced apoptosis in follicular thyroid carcinomas.

2013

The objective of the study was to identify microRNAs (miRs) characteristic for follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and to define their role in tumorigenesis. A miR-microarray study was conducted to identify miRs differentially expressed between FTCs and their surrounding tissues. Selection was further reinforced by a literature review. Four miRs were selected and confirmed by RT-qPCR: miR-146b, -183, -221 were up-regulated, whereas miR-199b down-regulated in FTCs. The influence of these miRs on cell proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis and migration was studied in HTori and FTC-133 cells. Functional characterization suggests an impact of miR-183 and miR-146b in FTC development. Overexpressio…

Ibrutinib As Treatment for Chemoimmunotherapy-Resistant Patients with Follicular Lymphoma: First Results from the Open-Label, Multicenter, Phase 2 DA…

2016

Abstract Background: While first line therapy for FL with chemotherapy or chemoimmunotherapy produces durable responses, most patients (pts) with FL eventually relapse. Those who become resistant to chemoimmunotherapy have limited treatment options. Ibrutinib, an inhibitor of BTK (Bruton's tyrosine kinase) and ITK (interleukin-2-inducible T-cell kinase), has demonstrated robust clinical activity in various B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Previous Phase 1 and 2 studies have shown promising results with single-agent ibrutinib in pts with relapsed or refractory FL (Bartlett NL. Blood. 2014; 800 & Fowler N. Blood. 2015; 2706). The aim of the DAWN study was to provide additional efficacy and s…

Clinicogenetic Risk Models in Patients Randomized to Receive Consolidative Autologous Stem-Cell Transplantation after Frontline R-CHOP for Advanced F…

2018

Abstract Introduction: Advanced follicular lymphoma (FL) is a clinically and molecularly heterogeneous disease. About 20% of patients have early progression of disease (POD) and short overall survival (OS). We have previously shown that integration of lymphoma-specific gene mutations and clinical factors improves pretreatment risk stratification (Pastore, 2015) and prediction of early POD (i.e., within 24 months, POD24; Jurinovic, 2016). Recently, we have shown that high-dose therapy (HDT) followed by autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) is an effective treatment option for eligible patients with high-risk disease as defined by POD24 (Jurinovic, 2018). Here, we aimed to explore wheth…

Preliminary Phase II Study Results of BBR2778 in Combination with Cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, and Prednisone in Patients with Relapsed Aggressive …

2004

Abstract Background: Pixantrone (BBR 2778) is a novel aza-anthracenedione with superior activity compared to doxorubicin and mitoxantrone in various tumor models including hematological malignancies. Pixantrone single agent therapy led to major responses in patients (pts) with aggressive lymphoma including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLCL). The safety of a CHOP-like regimen with pixantrone replacing doxorubicin (CPOP) was assessed in a dose-ranging study indicating a recommended dose of 150 mg/m² for pixantrone. Method: In this phase II study the primary objective was to assess the efficacy of the CPOP regimen (cyclophosphamide 750 mg/m² d1, pixantrone 150mg/m² d1, vincristine 1.4mg/m² d…

Viability and function of the cryopreserved whole rat ovary: comparison between slow-freezing and vitrification

2011

Objective To investigate four different protocols for cryopreservation of the whole rat ovary with intact vasculature to evaluate whether differences exist in post-thawing viability of the ovary after either vitrification or slow freezing. Design Experimental study. Setting Obstetrics and gynecology department. Animal(s) Immature Sprague-Dawley female rats. Intervention(s) Ovaries were isolated with the vascular tree intact up to the bifurcation of the abdominal aorta and were subsequently cannulated. The ovaries were flushed with increasing concentrations of the cryoprotectant dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to either 1.5 or 7 M. The ovaries underwent cryopreservation by vitrification or passive…

Number and size of rat thyroid C cells: No effect of pinealectomy

1985

A method for the estimation of the size and total number of calcitonin-containing cells (C cells) in the rat thyroid gland has been devised. The total area, the number of C cells per unit area, and the areal fraction of C cells were determined for the C cell region using step serial sections. From these data it was estimated that from 0.3 X 10(6) to 1.0 X 10(6) C cells were evenly divided between the two thyroid lobes. Approximately 150 micron3 of cytoplasm were associated with each of these cells. In comparison with sham-operated rats, pinealectomy had little effect on the number of C cells. In an experiment terminated in the summer, there was a statistically insignificant decrease 6 weeks…
