Validation of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index in Patients Having Undergone Ankle Fracture Surgery
2019
The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that is widely used to evaluate the pain, stiffness, and physical function of patients with osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. Although the WOMAC has also been used for patients after foot and ankle surgery, it has not been validated for this purpose. A total of 130 patients with surgically treated ankle fractures completed the WOMAC, Visual Analogue Scale Foot and Ankle (VAS FA), Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), 15D Health-Related Quality-of-Life Questionnaire (15D), and Visual Analog Scale for General Health (VAS general health) after foot and ankle surgery. The…
Tibial Nerve Block: Supramalleolar or Retromalleolar Approach? A Randomized Trial in 110 Participants.
2020
Of the five nerves that innervate the foot, the one in which anesthetic blocking presents the greatest difficulty is the tibial nerve. The aim of this clinical trial was to establish a protocol for two tibial nerve block anesthetic techniques to later compare the anesthetic efficiency of retromalleolar blocking and supramalleolar blocking in order to ascertain whether the supramalleolar approach achieved a higher effective blocking rate. A total of 110 tibial nerve blocks were performed. Location of the injection site was based on a prior ultrasound assessment of the tibial nerve. The block administered was 3 mL of 2% mepivacaine. The two anesthetic techniques under study provided very simi…
Reliability and validity of the Finnish version of the Visual Analogue Scale Foot and Ankle (VAS-FA).
2018
Background: There have previously been no validated foot and ankle-specific patient-reported outcome measures in Finnish. Methods: The Visual Analogue Scale Foot and Ankle (VAS-FA) was translated and adapted into Finnish. Thereafter, 165 patients who had undergone foot and ankle surgery completed a questionnaire set on two separate occasions. Analyses included testing of floor-ceiling effect, internal consistency, reproducibility, and validity. Results: Minor linguistic differences emerged during the translation. Some structural adjustments were made. The mean (SD) total VAS-FA score was 74 (23). In the three subscales, maximum scores were noted in 2-5% of the responses, and internal consis…
Ankle Foot Orthoses with Wire Insertion
2013
The objective of the work is to present some researches regarding the virtual modelling of external medical devices with wire insertion. Ankle foot orthoses are used to correct and prevent different disfunctions of the human body and also in athlets recovery. The research is motivate by the problems appeared using this medical devices: durability issues, patient confort, manufacturing costs, lightweight, flexible access to shoes, inexpensive, readily available. These issues depends of the wey design, manufacturing technology, materials used, patient behavior, skills manufacturer. Wire insertion in polypropylene is a new approach of orthoses materials.
Potential agency problems in European club football? The case of UEFA Financial Fair Play
2014
Purpose– With the licence season 2013/2014 onwards Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Financial Fair Play (FFP) fully came into force. Among other things, FFP demands from the clubs to operate within their own revenues in order to counteract the increasing over indebtedness in European club football. The purpose of this paper is to cast further light on the relationship between UEFA and the clubs as the main actors of FFP and to derive implications to UEFA to improve the efficacy of this regulatory intervention.Design/methodology/approach– This paper explicitly examines the case of FFP from an agency theory perspective. A positivist agency approach is applied in order to describ…
NUEVAS FORMAS DE REPORTING CORPORATIVO: INFORMACIÓN SOBRE LA HUELLA DE CARBONO EN ESPAÑA
2018

An integrated environmental indicator for urban transportation systems: description and application
2015
A simplified version of the ecological footprint method is proposed for assessing the environmental performances of urban transportation systems. The method, starting from the knowledge of the composition of the running vehicular fleet, is here applied to a southern Italian province. It represents a synthetic indicator of the environmental pressure exerted by the system also matching the pollutant emissions with the carrying capacity of the site. Particularly, the forested area needed to absorb the CO2 emissions of the system is compared with the total forested area of the province. The results of the case-study indicates the yearly maximum distance that each vehicle of the fleet can cover …
Practical Model for Load-Carrying Capacity of Eccentrically Loaded Square Column Footings
2018
In this paper, a practical calculus model based on the strut-and-tie approach for prediction of the load-carrying capacity of eccentrically loaded RC column footings with square cross sections is presented. Existing models based on beam or slab models with flexural and two-way slab punching shear failure are presented and discussed. Several subgrade contact pressure distributions for column footings are considered. A parametric analysis of the effects of footing and column dimensions (depth, width), longitudinal ratio of longitudinal steel, and strength of concrete and steel is made for all models examined. Available experimental data are utilized to verify the model in comparison with exis…
