The article draws attention to the issues of symbolic functioning of the city which was formed of two different entities as a result of political and economic decisions. In the 20th century, the history of a traditional city got entwined with a modernistic industrial city which was taking shape. As a result, ideologies and politics impacted on the newly-established conurbation. The city denotes not only the material sphere, but also its urban community, which, in the case of the places under study, was basically historically complicated. The aim of the article is to establish whether the continuity between the Second and Third Polish Republics officially declared by the Polish elites is based on facts. The authors analyse the question with regard to three areas: symbolic events (handing over of the presidential insignia in 1990 and the 1998 resolution of the Senate of the Republic of Poland on legal continuity), judgements of ordinary courts and the Constitutional Court as well as legal scholarship. Abstract The new concepts of the ‘covariance matrix normalization’ and the ‘cascade’ structure of the adaptive least-squares estimator are shown to generalize and extend the use of internal information feedback in various robustness/alertness-oriented modifications to the standard ALS estimation algorithm. Hysteretic Systems Subjected to Delta Correlated Input

The paper deals with the evaluation of the probabilistic response of a single degree of freedom elastic-perfectly plastic system subjected to a delta correlated input process. The probabilistic characterisation of the response is here obtained by considering the accumulated plastic deformations as a compound homogeneous Poisson process independent of the external input. In this case the former can be considered as an external noise acting on the linear system. A closed form solution is also obtained and the analytic expression is compared with the customary Monte-Carlo method.
Rotational collisional line broadening at high temperatures in the N2 fundamental Q-branch studied with stimulated Raman spectroscopy

Self broadened N 2 Q-branch spectra are measured by high resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy in the pressure region 0.25-1.9 atm. and in the temperature range 295-1310 K. Non additivity of the Q(J) components due to line overlap arising in the highest pressure range explored is carefully taken into account. Excellent fit of the whole spectra is thus obtained for each pressure with linearly density-dependent line widths. Semi-classical calculations of the line-broadening coefficients lead to consistent values with all the measured ones. The antifungal secondary metabolite (+)-caripyrin was studied by vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy. Analysis of the recorded data, with the Boltzmann weighted-average of the spectra calculated at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory for all relevant conformers, unequivocally proved the (R,R)-configuration for the dextrorotatory natural product. Based on this finding, a short enantioselective synthesis of (+)-caripyrin was developed.

Poincare Inequalities and Spectral Gap, Concentration Phenomenon for G-Measures

We produce a new approach based upon inequalities of Poincare’s type for giving constructive estimates of the mixing rate for a family of mixing stationary processes continuously depending on their past called g-measures. We establish also exponential inequalities of Hoeffding’s type leading to a concentration phenomenon for a large class of observables; this last property permits in particular to give the typical behaviour of the n-orbits of a g-measure.
