Correlative study of structural and optical properties of ZnSe under severe plastic deformation

The effect of plastic deformation on the optical and structural properties of ZnSe crystals has been investigated. The optical properties have been monitored by cathodoluminescence measurements as a function of the deformation degree. Remarkable differences in the defect-related emissions from the most severely deformed areas have been encountered. Deformation of the crystal lattice of ZnSe, associated with slip phenomena, has been studied by means of Electron Backscattered Diffraction and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The relation between the deformation and the optical properties of the ZnSe crystals has been described.

Bearings are one of the most critical elements in rotating machinery systems. Bearing faults are the main reason for failures in electrical motors and generators. Therefore, early bearing fault detection is very important to prevent critical system failures in the industry. Investigation and reduction of losses on inverter-fed induction motors

An electric motor is more effective and flexible when supplied by a frequency converter. The frequency converter not only produces the fundamental voltage but also a set of higher harmonics which cause additional losses in the motor. Losses in the frequency converter are normally neglected in the drive dimensioning due to insufficient data available from manufacturers. Motor's losses can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency of frequency converters. An increase of the switching frequency may result in higher losses in the frequency converter. An exact method for the determination of differential leakage factors in electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings

An exact and simple method for the determination of differential leakage factors in polyphase ac electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings is presented in this paper. The method relies on the properties of Gorges polygons that are used to transform an infinite series expressing the differential leakage factor into a finite sum in order to significantly simplify the calculations. Some examples are shown and discussed in order to practically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Induction motors are the most commonly used prime-movers in industrial applications. Many induction motors supplied by frequency converters are coupled with a physical angular rotor position/velocity sensor which makes the drive complex and require maintenance. This paper presents a sensorless control structure to avoid using a physical angular rotor position/velocity sensor. Resistive communications based on neuristors

Memristors are passive elements that allow us to store information using a single element per bit. However, this is not the only utility of the memristor. Considering the physical chemical structure of the element used, the memristor can function at the same time as memory and as a communication unit. This paper presents a new approach to the use of the memristor and develops the concept of resistive communication.
