Work-loss years among people diagnosed with diabetes: a reappraisal from a life course perspective

2018

Aims Early exit from the workforce has been proposed to be one of the unfavorable consequences of diabetes. We examined whether early exit from the workforce differed between persons who were and were not diagnosed with diabetes during their work career. Methods The cohort included 12,726 individuals of the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study, born between 1934 and 1944. Using data from nationwide registers, the cohort was followed up from early adulthood until they transitioned into retirement or died. Work- loss years were estimated using the restricted mean work years method. Results During a follow-up of 382,328 person-years for men and 349 894 for women, 36.8% transitioned into old age pension…

Glycosylamines of 4,6-O-butylidene-α-d-glucopyranose: synthesis and characterization of glycosylamines, and the crystal structure of 4,6-O-butylidene…

2002

A total of nine glycosylamines of 4,6-O-butylidene-α-D-glucopyranose were synthesized using primary amines having various groups in their ortho- or para-positions. Among these, six are monoglycosylamines, including one primary glycosylamine, and three are bis-glycosylamines. All these compounds were characterized by 1H, 1H–1H COSY, 1H–13C COSY and 13C NMR spectroscopy and FTIR spectra. The FAB mass spectra provided the molecular weights of the products by exhibiting the corresponding molecular ion peaks. The crystal structure of 4,6-O-butylidene-N-(o-chlorophenyl)-β-D-glucopyranosylamine revealed the C-1 glycosylation, the β-anomeric nature, and the 4C1 chair conformation of the saccharide …

Languages associated with saturated formations of groups

2013

International audience; In a previous paper, the authors have shown that Eilenberg's variety theorem can be extended to more general structures, called formations. In this paper, we give a general method to describe the languages corresponding to saturated formations of groups, which are widely studied in group theory. We recover in this way a number of known results about the languages corresponding to the classes of nilpotent groups, soluble groups and supersoluble groups. Our method also applies to new examples, like the class of groups having a Sylow tower.; Dans un article précédent, les auteurs avaient montré comment étendre le théorème des variétés d'Eilenberg à des structures plus g…

Female pelvic congenital malformations

2011

A B S T R A C T The second part of this review deals with the quality of life of patients with congenital pelvic malformations, focusing on the sexuality, reproductive outcomes and overall psychological impact of the women affected. The presence of deformed pelvic anatomy, congenital or iatrogenic, and therefore of altered urinary, anal or sexual functions, are not only a physical limitation but seriously compromise psychological health from childhood. These difficulties jeopardise the thorny path from childhood to adult life through adolescence, and if neglected, could be responsible for seriously impairing quality of life in adulthood, in terms of mental health and psychosocial functions.…

Dydrogesterone use during pregnancy: Overview of birth defects reported since 1977

2009

Between 1977 and 2005, 28 cases of potential links between maternal dydrogesterone use during pregnancy and congenital birth defects were reported. The types of defects were very diverse, with no evidence of a pattern of abnormalities. The data do not provide evidence for congenital malformations associated with dydrogesterone use.

A preliminary investigation assessing the basic digital capabilities of minimally verbal children on the autism spectrum with intellectual disability

2020

Purpose Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can demonstrate a preference for using digital technologies which can represent a relative strength within the autism community. Such a strength would have implications for digitally mediated interventions and support for autism. However, research to date has not developed a methodology for assessing the capabilities of minimally verbal children on the autism spectrum with intellectual disability (ID) to use digital technology. Design/methodology/approach Six minimally verbal children with ASD and ID undertook an accessible assessment that identified what capabilities for interacting with a digital tablet device they could and could not …

A population-based study relevant to seasonal variations in causes of death in children undergoing surgery for congenital cardiac malformations

2007

AbstractAimsOur objectives were, first, to study seasonal distribution of perioperative deaths within 30 days after surgery, and late death, in children undergoing surgery for congenitally malformed hearts, and second, to study the causes of late death.MethodsWe analysed a retrospective cohort of 1,753 children with congenital cardiac malformations born and undergoing surgery in the period from 1990 through 2002 with a special focus on the causes of late death. The data was obtained from the registry of congenital cardiac malformations at Rikshospitalet, Oslo, and the Norwegian Medical Birth Registry. The mean follow-up from birth was 8.1 years, with a range from zero to 15.2 years.ResultsD…

De novo 13q deletions in two patients with mild anorectal malformations as part of VATER/VACTERL and VATER/VACTERL-like association and analysis of E…

2013

Item does not contain fulltext Anorectal malformations (ARMs) comprise a broad spectrum of conditions ranging from mild anal anomalies to complex cloacal malformations. In 40-50% of cases, ARM occurs within the context of defined genetic syndromes or complex multiple congenital anomalies, such as VATER/VACTERL (vertebral defects [V], ARMs [A], cardiac defects [C], tracheoesophageal fistula with or without esophageal atresia [TE], renal malformations [R], and limb defects [L]) association. Here, we report the identification of deletions at chromosome 13q using single nucleotide polymorphism-based array analysis in two patients with mild ARM as part of VATER/VACTERL and VATER/VACTERL-like ass…
