Classification of extra virgin olive oils according to their geographical origin using phenolic compound profiles obtained by capillary electrochroma…

2009

Abstract A simple and reliable method for the evaluation of the phenolic fraction of extra virgin olive oils (EVOO) by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with UV–Vis detection, using lauryl acrylate (LA) ester-based monolithic columns, has been developed. The percentages of the porogenic solvents in the polymerization mixture, and the mobile phase composition, were optimized. The optimum monolith was obtained with a monomers/porogens ratio of 40:60% (wt/wt) using a LA/1,3-butanediol diacrylate ratio of 70:30% (wt/wt) and a 1,4-butanediol/1-propanol ratio of 25:75% (wt/wt). A satisfactory resolution between the phenolic compounds was achieved in less than 25 min with a 15:85 (v/v) ACN–wat…

Pressurized CO2 Electrochemical Conversion to Formic Acid: From Theoretical Model to Experimental Results

2019

To curb the severely rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, new approaches to capture and utilize this greenhouse gas are currently being investigated. In the last few years, many researches have focused on the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to added-value products in aqueous electrolyte solutions. In this backdrop, the pressurized electroreduction of CO2 can be assumed an up-and-coming alternative process for the production of valuable organic chemicals [1-3]. In this work, the process was studied in an undivided cell with tin cathode in order to produce formic acid and develop a theoretical model, predicting the effect of several operative parameters. The model is based on …

Determination of the flavor enhancer maltol through a FIA — direct chemiluminescence procedure

2001

Abstract A new FIA — direct chemiluminescence method is proposed for the determination of maltol, based upon the oxidation of the food additive by KMnO 4 in sulfuric acid medium at 80°C enhanced by hexadecylpyridinium chloride (HD) and formic acid (HCOOH). The calibration graph is linear over the range 0.5–4.0 mg l −1 of maltol, with a R.S.D. ( n =50, 0.5 mg l −1 ) of 2.9%, LOD ( s / n =3) of 10 mg l −1 and sample throughput of 153 h −1 .

Simultaneous isolation of xanthomegnin, viomellein, rubrosulphin, viopurpurin, and brevianamide A by preparative HPLC.

1984

A method for the isolation of xanthomegnin, viomellein, rubrosulphin, viopurpurin, and brevianamide A from Penicillium viridicatum (DSM 2447) is described. After extraction, HPLC was performed with a preparative silicagel column, eluted with toluene / ethyl acetate / formic acid (27/9/1, v/v/v) and dichloromethane / acetic acid (9/1, v/v). The toxins were detected with a UV-monitor. It was possible to isolate them in an absolutely pure state. The described method is operationally simple and very efficient.

Analysis of neuropeptide Y and its metabolites by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and integrated sam…

2000

A novel restricted access cation exchanger with sulphonic acid groups at the internal surface was proven to be highly suitable in the sample clean up of peptides on-line coupled to HPLC-electrospray ionization (ESI)-MS. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and several of its fragments in plasma were subjected to the sample clean-up procedure. The peptides were eluted by a step gradient from the restricted access column, applying 10 mM phosphate buffer pH 3.5 from 5 to 20% (v/v) of acetonitrile with 1 M NaCl and transferred to a Micra ODS II column (33x4.6 mm). The separation of the peptides and their fragments was performed by a linear gradient from 20 to 60% (v/v) acetonitrile in water with 0.1% formic ac…

A reliable and environmentally-friendly liquid-chromatographic method for multi-class determination of fat-soluble UV filters in cosmetic products.

2013

An environmentally-friendly analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 15 fat-soluble ultraviolet (UV) filters currently authorized by the European Union regulation on cosmetic products has been developed. The determination was performed by liquid chromatography with UV spectrophotometric detection. Different parameters, such as type of column, oven temperature, mobile phase composition and flow rate were studied. The best chromatographic separation was obtained under the following conditions: C18 column set at 60°C and gradient ethanol:water (containing 1% formic acid and 20mM of 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin) as mobile phase pumped at 1mL min(-1). 2-Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodext…

Pressurised liquid extraction and capillary electrophoresis–mass spectrometry for the analysis of pesticide residues in fruits from Valencian markets…

2010

Abstract A procedure based in capillary electrophoresis–mass spectrometry (CE–MS) for the analysis of seven pesticides (flutolanil, simazine, haloxyfop, acifluorfen, dinoseb, picloram, and ioxynil) in four Mediterranean summer fruits with high water content (peaches, melon, watermelon, and apricot) is developed. Several conditions were studied for the optimisation of both, the separation and the electrospray (ESI) connection. The best results were obtained using 35 mM ammonium formiate (pH 9.7) as separation buffer, 20 °C as capillary temperature and 23 kV as applied voltage in an uncoated fused-silica capillary with 50 cm total length, 25 cm thermostated length, 25 cm at room temperature l…

Direct injection analysis of fatty and resin acids in papermaking process waters by HPLC/MS

2011

A novel HPLC-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization/MS (HPLC-APCI/MS) method was developed for the rapid analysis of selected fatty and resin acids typically present in papermaking process waters. A mixture of palmitic, stearic, oleic, linolenic, and dehydroabietic acids was separated by a commercial HPLC column (a modified stationary C(18) phase) using gradient elution with methanol/0.15% formic acid (pH 2.5) as a mobile phase. The internal standard (myristic acid) method was used to calculate the correlation coefficients and in the quantitation of the results. In the thorough quality parameters measurement, a mixture of these model acids in aqueous media as well as in six different pape…

Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide to formic acid: on the road to applicative scale

2018

In this context, electrochemical reduction of CO2 is considered one of the more attractive pathway to convert CO2, because the products can be selectively controlled by changing the operative conditions of the electrolysis. In the last years, an increasing attention has been devoted on the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to formic acid in water [2,3]. The main hurdle of the reduction of CO2 from water solution is the low CO2 solubility in water. In this work, the effect of some operating parameters, including pressure, current density, and flow rate, on the conversion of CO2 at tin flat cathodes to formic acid was studied using a pressurized filter-press cell with a continuous recirculati…

Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide: effect of the cell and of the operating parameters on the performances of the process.

2017

Recycling technologies of CO2 allow to introduce renewable energy in the chemical and energy chain, storing a renewable energy in the chemical form. In this context, electrochemical conversion of CO2 is considered one of the more interesting approaches, using excess electric energy from intermittent renewable sources. (1) Furthermore, products can be selectively controlled by changing the operating conditions of electrolysis. In particular, in the last years, an increasing attention has been devoted to the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to formic acid or formate in water. (2,3,4) The main hurdle of the reduction of CO2 from water solution is the low CO2 solubility in water. In this work,…
