Gene expression in TGFbeta-induced epithelial cell differentiation in a three-dimensional intestinal epithelial cell differentiation model

Abstract Background The TGFβ1-induced signal transduction processes involved in growth and differentiation are only partly known. The three-dimensional epithelial differentiation model, in which T84 epithelial cells are induced to differentiate either with TGFβ1 or IMR-90 mesenchymal cell-secreted soluble factors, is previously shown to model epithelial cell differentiation seen in intestine. That model has not been used for large scale gene expression studies, such as microarray method. It is well established that cancer arises in chronically inflamed tissue, and this is particularly notable in the gastrointestinal tract. Classic examples include Helicobacter pylori-associated gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and inflammatory bowel disease-associated colorectal cancer. Growing evidence suggests that these associations might be not casual findings. Focusing on individual cytokines has generated evidence that anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-10 and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) may have a complex role in gastrointestinal carcinogenesis. The societal contexts for sound and music computing: Research, education, industry, and socio-culture

Abstract The paper addresses the various contexts that determine the societal framework for research in the field of sound and music computing. Four of these contexts are identified, namely, the research context, the educational context, the industrial context and the socio-cultural context. For each context, the major trends are analysed and summarized as short statements, thus providing a background in which the state-of-the-art and the challenges of sound and music research can be situated.

En este trabajo se reconstruye y analiza la historia del desaparecido café de España de Valencia, que fue inaugurado el primero de mayo de 1886. En su instalación y decoración intervinieron empresas, artistas y artesanos valencianos. Este espacio para la práctica de la sociabilidad pública fue único en su categoría y sobresalió por su suntuoso ambiente. De hecho, fue considerado como uno de los mejores de Europa y, según Azorín –uno de sus tertulianos–, “no lo habría tampoco en el mismo París”. Se convirtió en un lugar emblemático de la vida social y cultural de esta ciudad. A continuación, se estudia la restitución al culto de las imágenes sagradas, seguido de un estudio del caso valenciano centrado principalmente en los ejemplos de la Virgen de los Desamparados y el Cristo del Grao como representantes de la activación de geografías devocionales.
