Laser speckle imaging for early detection of microbial colony forming units

In this study, an optical contactless laser speckle imaging technique for the early identification of bacterial colony-forming units was tested. The aim of this work is to compare the laser speckle imaging method for the early assessment of microbial activity with standard visual inspection under white light illumination. In presented research, the growth of Vibrio natriegens bacterial colonies on the solid medium was observed and analyzed. Laser speckle time-series correlation analysis for bacteria activity detection

The study aims at development and laboratory approbation of non-contact optical technique for early evaluation of microbial activity. Microorganisms’ activity is estimated by laser speckle contrast imaging technique in combination with image processing of obtained time varying speckle patterns. Laser speckle patterns were captured by CMOS sensor during illumination of growing bacteria colonies by low power (<30 mW, 635 nm) stabilized coherent light source. Complex Electromagnetic Fields Reduce Candida albicans Planktonic Growth and Its Adhesion to Titanium Surfaces

This study evaluates the effects of different programs of complex electromagnetic fields (C.M.F.s) on Candida albicans, in planktonic and sessile phase and on human gingival fibroblasts (HGF cells). In vitro cultures of C. albicans ATCC 10231 and HGF cells were exposed to different cycles of C.M.F.s defined as: oxidative stress, oxidative stress/antibacterial, antibacterial, antibacterial/oxidative stress. A variant of Smurf2 protects mice against colitis-associated colon cancer by inducing transforming growth factor β signaling.

Background & Aims Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling, which is down-regulated by the E3 ubiquitin ligase Smad ubiquitin regulating factor 2 (Smurf2), promotes development of cancer. We identified a splice variant of Smurf2 (ΔE2Smurf2) and investigated its role in colon carcinogenesis in mice. Body movements during music performance have been found to be indicative of the performer’s musical intentionality, and contribute to an observer’s perception of expressive playing. This study investigates the effect of structural elements of the score, and the playing of different levels of expression on body movements during a piano performance. In the paper some problems of process design and control in metal forming are taken into account. In particular as far as the former aspect is concerned, the problem of the preform design in cold forging is analyzed: the contributions offered by several researchers are presented and an innovative design procedure is proposed. As well, the suitability of closed-loop control systems for metal forming applications is discussed with particular reference to sheet stamping operations; again, after an overview of the state of the art, the advantages offered by the application in this field of Artificial Intelligence techiniques is pointed out.
