Music and Emotion: Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives

2014

One of the key reasons people engage with music, whether as listener or performer, therapist or researcher, is because of its emotional impact. Music comforts us when we’re sad, lifts us up in happier times, bonds us together. We use music to modify our mood, augment current feelings, release tension. Given the ever-growing presence of music in our everyday lives, the investigation of issues related to and subsequent dissemination of knowledge concerning music and emotion is becoming increasingly relevant. This special issue is based on work presented at the 3rd International Conference on Music & Emotion (ICME3) organised by the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Music Resea…

Tracing multisensory food experiences on Twitter

2021

How a food, or a dish, is named and how its components and attributes are described can all influence the perception and the enjoyment of the food. Therefore, tracing patterns in food descriptions and determining their role can be of value. The aims of this study were the following: (1) to describe the multisensory food experience as represented in microblog entries concerning food and drink on Twitter, (2) to provide an overview of the changes in the above-mentioned food representations during the period 2011‐20, and (3) to contribute to a broader understanding of the human‐food relationship as reflected on social media ‐ in this case Twitter ‐ and outline its potential utility for the res…

The relationship between body and screen in Studio Azzurro’s performances since the 1980s until today

2018

Studio Azzurro is an Italian group that has been working with different performative languages since the 1980s: video installations, theater, video art, cinema, interactive installations, interactive museums. In all these artistic experiences Studio Azzurro has never worked using the languages handed down by tradition, but has always experimented by mixing them with new technologies. The work they have conducted in theater is particular, because the use of new technologies has transformed the concept of theater and has opened the way for the development of new performative forms such as digital or technological theater. In what follows, we will study the relationship between body and screen…

The Endothelial Transcription Factor ERG Mediates a Differential Role in the Aneurysmatic Ascending Aorta with Bicuspid or Tricuspid Aorta Valve: A P…

2022

The pathobiology of ascending aorta aneurysms (AAA) onset and progression is not well understood and only partially characterized. AAA are also complicated in case of bicuspid aorta valve (BAV) anatomy. There is emerging evidence about the crucial role of endothelium-related pathways, which show in AAA an altered expression and function. Here, we examined the involvement of ERG-related pathways in the differential progression of disease in aortic tissues from patients having a BAV or tricuspid aorta valve (TAV) with or without AAA. Our findings identified ERG as a novel endothelial-specific regulator of TGF-β-SMAD, Notch, and NO pathways, by modulating a differential fibrotic or calcified A…

The mTOR Inhibitor Temsirolimus Added to Rituximab Combined With Dexamethasone, Cytarabine, and Cisplatinum (R-DHAP) for the Treatment of Patients Wi…

2021

There is a high need for novel treatment options in relapsed and refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Single agent mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor treatment has shown promising efficacy in this entity. Here, we report on the results of the mTOR-inhibitor temsirolimus combined to standard rituximab-DHAP salvage regimen in a prospective, multicenter, phase II, open-label study. The STORM regimen consisted of rituximab 375 mg/m(2) (day 2) and DHAP (dexamethasone 40 mg day 3-6, cisplatinum 100 mg/m(2) day 3, cytarabine 2 × 2  g/m(2) day 4) with temsirolimus added on day 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle, with 2 to 4 cycles planned. In part I, dose levels of 25, 50, 75, and 100 mg fo…

Cytokine Plasma Levels: Reliable Predictors for Radiation Pneumonitis?

2008

BackgroundRadiotherapy (RT) is the primary treatment modality for inoperable, locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but even with highly conformal treatment planning, radiation pneumonitis (RP) remains the most serious, dose-limiting complication. Previous clinical reports proposed that cytokine plasma levels measured during RT allow to estimate the individual risk of patients to develop RP. The identification of such cytokine risk profiles would facilitate tailoring radiotherapy to maximize treatment efficacy and to minimize radiation toxicity. However, cytokines are produced not only in normal lung tissue after irradiation, but are also over-expressed in tumour cells of NSC…
