The build-up and relaxation of stresses in a glass-forming soft-sphere mixture under shear: A computer simulation study

2009

Molecular-dynamics computer simulations in conjunction with Lees-Edwards boundary conditions are used to investigate a glass-forming binary Yukawa fluid under shear. The transition from the elastic response to plastic flow is elucidated by studying the stress relaxation after switching off the shear. We find a slow stress relaxation starting from states in the elastic regime and a fast one starting from states in the plastic-flow regime. We show that these relaxation patterns are related to a different distribution of local microscopic stresses in both cases.

The pianists in front of Liszt's Sonata in B minor

2015

Our research focuses a comparative analysis of the performances of Liszt's Sonata in b minor. We analysed twenty-five recordings by pianists grouped into five piano schools : Hungarian, French, Russian, American and German. We compared the deviations of the performers from the score and the differences between the individual performances, based on a selection of seven parameters that allowed us to characterise each of them. A double analysis was made: "by ear" and with the aid of acomputer. Our research has shown the importance of several complementary factors of influence : education, the period during which the pianists lived and created, the artists' temperaments and their artistic indiv…

Un contrato inédito de Juan de Juanes. El retablo de la Cofradía de la Sangre de Cristo de Valencia (1539)

2012

This article is based on an unpublished contract signed in 1539 by Vicente and Juan Macip for an altarpiece for the Valencian Brotherhood of the Blood of Christ. The agreement stipulates that Juan, later known as Juan de Juanes, had to paint the scenes. Thus the document reinforces the hypothesis that Juan Macip was the most important painter in the Macip workshop during the 1530’s. It also fills a documental void in between the completion of the Silversmith’s Guild altarpiece (1534-1539) and the contract for the Fuente la Higuera altarpiece (1548). This study also verifies the popularity of the iconography of the seven sheddings of the Blood of Christ and processions of disciplinants.<b…

Un contrato de los Hernandos para la capilla de les Febres de la Seo de Xàtiva en 1511

2006

The contract dated 1511 signed by Fernando Llanos and Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, Castillian painters known as “the Hernandos,” for the termination of an altarpiece in the chapel of the “Virgen de les Febres” is presented here. This chapel was founded in 1497 in the collegiate church of Jàtiva (Valencia) by Francisco de Borja, Bishop of Teano and Cardinal of Cosenza. Based on this document, a series of hypotheses are put forth concerning the trajectory and works of “the Hernandos” following their execution of the doors of the main altarpiece of the Cathedral of Valencia.

Se presenta el contrato firmado en 1511 por Fernando Llanos y Fernando Yañez de la Almedina, pintor…

Contribution of sinusoidal endothelial liver cells to liver fibrosis: expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 receptors and modulation of pla…

1993

Transforming growth factor-beta 1 is an important cytokine in the pathophysiology of liver fibrosis, stimulating the production of extracellular matrix. Whether this cytokine can also control the degradation of matrix proteins in liver cells has not been investigated. Because plasmin is an important protease for the degradation of matrix glycoproteins, we investigated whether sinusoidal endothelial liver cells could contribute to fibrosing liver disease through the modulation of plasmin-generating enzymes in response to transforming growth factor-beta 1. Sinusoidal endothelial cells from guinea pig liver were investigated in pure monolayer culture. Using 125I-labelled transforming growth fa…

Modeling of the Plastic Characteristics of AA6082 for the Friction Stir Welding Process

2015

Focus of this paper is to model the plastic forming behavior of AA6082, in order to develop the numerical FE analysis of the friction stir welding processes and the simulation of subsequent forming processes. During the friction stir welding process, the temperatures reached are until 500 °C and have a fundamental role for the correct performance of the process so the material data has to show a temperature dependency. Because of the tool rotation a strain rate sensitivity of the material has to be respected as well. In this context, the general material characteristics of AA6082 were first identified for different stress states. For the uniaxial state the standard PuD-Al used in the automo…

The Essential Thrombocythemia in 2020: What We Know and Where We Still Have to Dig Deep

2020

The Essential Thrombocythemia is a Chronic Philadelphia-negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasm characterized by a survival curve that is only slightly worse than that of age- and sex-adjusted healthy population. The criteria for diagnosis were reviewed in 2016 by WHO. The incidence varies from 0.2 to 2.5:100 000 people per year, with a prevalence of 38 to 57 cases per 100 000 people. The main characteristics of ET are the marked thrombocytosis and the high frequency of thrombosis. The spectrum of symptoms is quite wide, but fatigue results to be the most frequent. Thrombosis is frequently observed, often occurring before or at the time of diagnosis. The classification of thrombotic risk has …

La devoción a san Jorge durante el siglo XVIII en Durango. A propósito de un lienzo conservado en la sacristía de la catedral

2019

ABSTRACT: St. George was one of the best known figures in Christendom, due both to his unique story as well as for the help he gave to the various Spanish kingdoms in the fight against the enemies of Jesus Christ. His cult spread to New Spain where he was known, although not in the same manner as in Europe. But nevertheless, in the cathedral of the bishopric of Durango, the efforts of bishop Pedro Anselmo Sánchez de Tagle interests resulted in St. George being declared patron of the city in 1749 by both civil and ecclesiastical chapters. This event granted the saint another function: the fight against poisonous animals, specifically, the scorpions endemic to the region. As a result, the Sai…

Wyrazy dźwiękonaśladowcze w polskim i czeskim przekładzie "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" J. K. Rowling

2019

The article is a contrastive analysis of twenty two Czech and Polish onomatopoeic verbs from translations of J. K. Rowling’s book: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The main source of data was Ćesky narodnf korpus - Korpus InterCorp v. 9. The starting point was locating the presence of examples of onomatopoeia separately in each translation and then verifying if their presence is motivated by onomatopoeia in the original text or not - usually it was. The next step was to establish what kinds of relations are present between the equivalent and the translated onomatopoeia. In the article, three types of these relations are presented: 1) the exact equivalent refers in the whole text al…
