Path integral quantization for massive vector bosons
2010
A parity-conserving and Lorentz-invariant effective field theory of self-interacting massive vector fields is considered. For the interaction terms with dimensionless coupling constants the canonical quantization is performed. It is shown that the self-consistency condition of this system with the second-class constraints in combination with the perturbative renormalizability leads to an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with an additional mass term.
Optomechanical Rydberg-atom excitation via dynamic Casimir-Polder coupling
2014
We study the optomechanical coupling of a oscillating effective mirror with a Rydberg atomic gas, mediated by the dynamical atom-mirror Casimir-Polder force. This coupling may produce a near-field resonant atomic excitation whose probability scales as $\propto (d^2\;a\;n^4\;t)^2/z_0^8$, where $z_0$ is the average atom-surface distance, $d$ the atomic dipole moment, $a$ the mirror's effective oscillation amplitude, $n$ the initial principal quantum number, and $t$ the time. We propose an experimental configuration to realize this system with a cold atom gas trapped at a distance $\sim 2\cdot10 \, \mu$m from a semiconductor substrate, whose dielectric constant is periodically driven by an ext…
Shuttling of Rydberg ions for fast entangling operations
2019
We introduce a scheme to entangle Rydberg ions in a linear ion crystal, using the high electric polarizability of the Rydberg electronic states in combination with mutual Coulomb coupling of ions that establishes common modes of motion. After laser-initialization of ions to a superposition of ground- and Rydberg-state, the entanglement operation is driven purely by applying a voltage pulse that shuttles the ion crystal back and forth. This operation can achieve entanglement on a sub-$\mu$s timescale, more than two orders of magnitude faster than typical gate operations driven by continuous-wave lasers. Our analysis shows that the fidelity achieved with this protocol can exceed $99.9\%$ with…
INDAGINI PRELIMINARI SULLA PRESENZA DI CRONOBACTER (ENTEROBACTER SAKAZAKII ) NEL LATTE IN POLVERE
2009
Cronobacter ( Enterobacter sakazakii ) is an emerging foodborne pathogen that causes neonatal meningitis , necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis with case-fatality rates of 20- 50%. Contaminated infant formula has been epidemiologically identifi ed as the source of transmission, although this organism has been isolated from a wide range of foods, food ingredients or food production environments.

Use of stevia and chia seeds for the formulation of traditional and vegan artisanal ice cream
2021
Abstract Gelato is the name of the Italian-style artisanal ice cream, a nutritious product widely consumed in different parts of the world. Due to the high content in simple sugars, ice cream should be consumed moderately by diabetic patient. This research aimed to create artisanal ice cream, using Stevia rebaudiana, a plant well known for its sweet taste and its hypoglycemic effect. Traditional and vegan ice cream were formulated using stevia and chia seeds, in order to obtain products with appreciable rheological, textural and sensorial properties. Physical and sensorial properties of the ice cream formulation containing milk protein (traditional) or vegan substitute, were evaluated. Resu…
Use of concentrated fruit juice extracts to improve the antioxidant properties in a soft drink formulation
2023
Three juices obtained respectively from pomegranate, prickly pear and orange fruit were separately concentrated using an innovative technique, that allow to obtain a final product with high content of bioactive compounds and elevate antioxidant activity. The concentrated juices were employed in the formulation of a soft drink to improve its bioactive properties. Despite a low amount of each concentrated juice was used, the experimental soft drink obtained evidenced a high content of total polyphenols. The antioxidant activity detected was similar to that of tea commonly considered a healthy beverage with strong radical scavenging activity. The sensory analysis of the soft drink showed a con…

2003
The singlet → singlet and singlet → triplet electronic spectra of cycloocta-1,3,5,7-tetraene are studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and extended atomic natural orbitals (ANOs) basis sets. The observed dipole-allowed features at 4.43, 6.02, and 6.42 eV and the spin-forbidden singlet → triplet bands with maxima at 3.05, 4.05, and 4.84 eV (Frueholz, R. P.; Kuppermann, A. J. Chem. Phys. 1978, 69, 3614) are assigned as the transitions 1 1 A 1 → 1 1 A 2 , 1 1 A 1 → 2 1 B 2 (3p z ), 1 1 A 1 → 3 1 E, and 1 1 A 1 - 1 3 A 2 , 1 1 A 1 → 1 3 E, 1 1 A 1 → 1 3 B 1 , respectively. The lowest (3s) Rydberg singlet and triplet states are placed at 5.58 (2 1 A 1 ) and…
Development of a real-time PCR assay for detection and quantification of enterotoxigenic members of Bacillus cereus group in food samples
2009
A highly sensitive real-time PCR (qPCR) procedure, targeting the phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase C gene (pc-plc), was developed for specific detection and quantification of strains belonging to Bacillus cereus group. The target region was selected based on the enterotoxigenic profiles of 75 Bacillus strains. The inclusivity and exclusivity of the RTi-PCR assay were assessed with 59 isolates of the B. cereus group, 16 other Bacillus spp., and 4 non-Bacillus strains. The assay was also used to construct calibration curves for different food matrices, and it had a wide quantification range of 6 log units using both serial dilutions of purified DNA and calibrated cell suspensions of …
