A Boundary Element Formulation for Modelling Structural Health Monitoring Applications
2015
In this paper, a boundary element formulation for modelling pitch-catch damage detection applications is introduced. The current formulation has been validated by both finite element analyses and physical experiments. Comparing to the widely used finite element method, the current formulation does not only use less computational resources, but also demonstrates higher numerical stability. doi: 10.12783/SHM2015/221
Ar superformulu ģenerētu objektu īpašības un pielietojumi
2019
B-parameters for ΔS=2 supersymmetric operators
1998
We present a calculation of the matrix elements of the most general set of DeltaS=2 dimension-six four-fermion operators. The values of the matrix elements are given in terms of the corresponding B-parameters. Our results can be used in many phenomenological applications, since the operators considered here give important contributions to K^0--K^0bar mixing in several extensions of the Standard Model (supersymmetry, left-right symmetric models, multi-Higgs models etc.). The determination of the matrix elements improves the accuracy of the phenomenological analyses intended to put bounds on basic parameters of the different models, as for example the pattern of the sfermion mass matrices. Th…
On new efficient algorithms for PIMC and PIMD
2002
Abstract The properties of various algorithms, estimators, and high-temperature density matrix (HTDM) decompositions relevant for path integral simulations are discussed. It is shown that Fourier accelerated path integral molecular dynamics (PIMD) completely eliminates slowing down with increasing Trotter number P . A new primitive estimator of the kinetic energy for use in PIMD simulations is found to behave less pathologically than the original virial estimator. In particular, its variance does not increase significantly with P . Two non-primitive HTDM decompositions are compared as well: one decomposition used in the Takahashi Imada algorithm and another one based on an effective propaga…
Landau-Zener problem in a three-level neutrino system with non-linear time dependence
2006
We consider the level-crossing problem in a three-level system with non-linearly time-varying Hamiltonian (time-dependence $t^{-3}$). We study the validity of the so-called independent crossing approximation in the Landau-Zener model by making comparison with results obtained numerically in density matrix approach. We also demonstrate the failure of the so-called "nearest zero" approximation of the Landau-Zener level-crossing probability integral.
Fourier transform infrared determination of imidacloprid in pesticide formulations
2004
A simple method has been developed for Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) determination of Imidacloprid in pesticide formulations. Samples were diluted with CHCl3 and the FTIR spectra of samples and standards were obtained at a nominal resolution of 4 cm-1 from 4000 to 900 cm-1 accumulating 25 scans. Imidacloprid determination was based on the measure of either peak area from 1577 to 1567 cm-1 or peak height at 1572 cm-1, both corrected using a horizontal baseline defined at 1900 cm-1. The limits of detection achieved, of the order of 9 µg g-1, were appropriate for the determination of Imidacloprid in commercially available formulations. FTIR results were statistically comparable to those fo…
HPLC determination of oxadiazon in commercial pesticide formulations
2008
A simple, fast and precise high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure has been developed for the determination of oxadiazon in emulsifiable concentrated pesticide formulations. 20 µL of diluted sample in acetonitrile were injected in a Kromasil C18 (250 ×am injetados em uma coluna Kromasil C18 4.6 mm, 5 µm) column, using acetonitrile:water (80:20) as mobile phase at 1 mL min-1 flow rate and oxadiazon determined by absorbance measurement at 292 nm. A theoretical limit of detection of 0.02 µg mL-1, a limit of quantification of 0.047 µg mL-1, corresponding to a 0.02 and 0.07% m/v in the original sample, and a relative standard deviation of 0.08% for three replicate analysis of sa…
Fast, low-level detection of strontium-90 and strontium-89 in environmental samples by collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy
1993
Environmental assessment in the wake of a nuclear accident requires the rapid determination of the radiotoxic isotopes 89Sr and 90Sr. Useful measurements must be able to detect 108 atoms in the presence of about 1018 atoms of the stable, naturally occurring isotopes. This paper describes a new approach to this problem using resonance ionization spectroscopy in collinear geometry, combined with classical mass separation. After collection and chemical separation, the strontium from a sample is surface-ionized and the ions are accelerated to an energy of about 30 keV. Initially, a magnetic mass separator provides an isotopic selectivity of about 106. The ions are then neutralized by charge exc…
Voltammetric behavior and assay of the contraceptive drug levonorgestrel in bulk, tablets, and human serum at a mercury electrode.
2004
The cyclic voltammograms of levonorgestrel (LNG) in Britton-Robinson buffers of pH 2-11 at the hanging mercury drop electrode showed a single two-electron irreversible cathodic peak over the whole pH range. This peak may be attributed to the reduction of the 3-keto-delta-4-group in the A-ring of the LNG molecule. The interfacial adsorptive character of levonorgestrel onto the surface of the hanging mercury drop electrode was identified by means of both cyclic voltammetry and chronocoulometry techniques. A simple, sensitive, and selective square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetric procedure was developed for the quantitation of levonorgestrel. Under the optimized operational cond…
Taenia asiatica: the Most Neglected Human Taenia and the Possibility of Cysticercosis
2013
Not only Taenia solium and Taenia saginata, but also Taenia asiatica infects humans. The last species is not included in the evaluation of the specificity of the immunodiagnostic techniques for taeniasis/cysticercosis. There is currently no specific immunodiagnostic method for T. asiatica available. Therefore, due to the fact that molecular techniques (the only tool to distinguish the 3 Taenia species) are normally not employed in routine diagnostic methods, the 2 questions concerning T. asiatica (its definite geographic distribution and its ability to cause human cysticercosis), remain open, turning T. asiatica into the most neglected agent of human taeniasis-cysticercosis.
