Qualitative Forschung ist heute ein fester Bestandteil der aktualempirischen Sozial- und Erziehungswissenschaft. Mit ihrem Anspruch, die Sicht der Beforschten zur Grundlage von wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen werden zu lassen, stellt sie derzeit in der Fremdsprachenerwerbsforschung den favorisierten Forschungsansatz dar. Im vorliegenden Band werden schwerpunktmäßig empirische Forschungsprojekte vorgestellt, aber auch methodologische Fragestellungen auf theoretischer Ebene diskutiert und konkrete Verfahren zur Datenerhebung, -aufbereitung und -analyse erörtert. Returns To Education During And After The Economic Crisis: Evidence From Latvia 2006–2012

We employ EU-SILC micro data for Latvia to study how returns to education changed during the economic crisis of 2008–2009 and afterwards. We found that returns to education increased significantly during the crisis and decreased slightly during the subsequent economic recovery. The counter-cyclical effect was evident in nearly all population groups. After the crisis, education became more associated than before with a longer working week and a higher employment probability. Furthermore, we show that returns to education in Latvia are generally higher in the capital city and its suburbs than outside the capital city region, as well as for citizens of Latvia than for resident non-citizens and…

Participation in Social Media: Studying Explicit and Implicit Forms of Participation in Communicative Social Networks

The diverse forms of participation in social media raise many methodological and ethical issues that should be acknowledged in research. In this paper, participation in social media is studied by utilising the framework of explicit and implicit participation. The focus is on the communicative and communal aspects of social media. The aim of the paper is to promote the reconsideration of what constitutes participation when online users create connections rather than content. The underlying argument is that research on social media and the development of methods should concentrate more on implicit forms of participation.
Equal access to the top? Measuring selection into finnish academia

In this article, we draw a parallel between equality of opportunity in educational transitions and equality of opportunity in academic careers. In both cases, many methodological problems can be ameliorated by the use of longitudinal rather than cross-sectional data. We illustrate this point by using Finnish full-population register data to follow the educational and academic careers of the 1964–1966 birth cohorts from birth to the present day. We show how the Finnish professoriate is highly selected both in terms of parental background and in terms of gender. Vuonna 2011 saksalainen yhteiskunta järkyttyi vuosia kestäneen murhasarjan tultua ilmi. Uusnatsistisen terroristiryhmä NSU:n (Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund) oletettu kolmas jäsen Beate Zschäpe antoi ensimmäisen lausuntonsa vasta vuonna 2015. Vuonna 2013 alkaneessa oikeudenkäynnissä on syksyllä 2017 siirrytty loppupuheenvuoroihin. Tämä tutkimus käsittelee Beate Zschäpen antamassa kirjallisessa 53-sivuisessa oikeudenkäyntilausunnossa esille tulevia identiteettejä sekä sitä, millaisin kielellisin keinoin niitä konstruoidaan.
