Modeling the mobility of glyphosate from two contrasting agricultural soils in laboratory column experiments
2019
Glyphosate (GLP) currently is one of the most widely used herbicides worldwide. The persistence of GLP and its major metabolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in the environment has been described by other authors. This study was aimed at comparing the GLP and AMPA behavior in sandy and loamy sand soils after spiking with enhanced (445 µg g−1) concentrations of GLP in herbicide KLINIK® (Nufarm, Austria) and bioaugmentation followed by 40 days weathering and a consistent three-stage leaching in a laboratory column experiment. Soil samples were obtained from mineral topsoil (0–10 cm) within former agricultural lands where soil parent material was formed by glacigenic deposits. The total a…
Electrochemical and spectroscopic characterization of cobalt and zinc diaza‐18‐crown‐6 porphyrins and of a zinc dioxocyclam porphyrin
2000
The synthesis and electrochemical characterization of ‘crowned’ and ‘dioxocyclam’ metalloporphyrins containing Co(II) or Zn(II) metal ions is presented. Each complex is also characterized by mass spectrometry in addition to a variety of spectroscopic techniques (UV-vis, FTIR, ESR (in the case of Co(II)) and 1H and 13CNMR spectroscopy).
Synthesis, characterization, crystal structures and in vitro antistaphylococcal activity of organotin(IV) derivatives with 5,7-disubstituted-1,2,4-tr…
2011
Abstract New organotin(IV) complexes of 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( dbtp ) and 5,7-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( dptp ) with 1:1 and/or 1:2 stoichiometry were synthesized and investigated by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and 119 Sn Mossbauer in the solid state and by 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, in solution. Moreover, the crystal and molecular structures of Et 2 SnCl 2 (dbtp) 2 and Ph 2 SnCl 2 (EtOH) 2 (dptp) 2 are reported. The complexes contain hexacoordinated tin atoms: in Et 2 SnCl 2 (dbtp) 2 two 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine molecules coordinate classically the tin atom through N(3) atom and the coordination around the tin atom shows a …
Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy
2021
Infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopy is one of the most important analytical techniques available to study different kinds of samples including solids, semisolids, biological materials, films, liquids, solutions, and gases. IR spectroscopy not only uses the so-called infrared absorption, but also other techniques such as the attenuated total reflection method, diffuse reflectance method, reflection-absorption method, photoacoustic spectroscopy, and emission spectroscopy. IR spectroscopy is a technique based on the vibrations of the atoms of a molecule. An infrared spectrum is obtained by passing infrared radiation through a sample and determining what fraction of the incident radiation is …
Reliable Detection and Smart Deletion of Malassez Counting Chamber Grid in Microscopic White Light Images for Microbiological Applications
2015
AbstractIn biology, hemocytometers such as Malassez slides are widely used and are effective tools for counting cells manually. In a previous work, a robust algorithm was developed for grid extraction in Malassez slide images. This algorithm was evaluated on a set of 135 images and grids were accurately detected in most cases, but there remained failures for the most difficult images. In this work, we present an optimization of this algorithm that allows for 100% grid detection and a 25% improvement in grid positioning accuracy. These improvements make the algorithm fully reliable for grid detection. This optimization also allows complete erasing of the grid without altering the cells, whic…
Effective Degradation of Cigarette Butts via Treatment with Old Landfill Leachates
2021
In this paper, results of feasibility study on microplastics (MPs) assessment in leachates from the Latvian solid municipal landfill Getliņi are discussed. The application of leachates for the treatment of cigarette butts (CGB) was evaluated. Methods of fluorescent microscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and FTIR-microscopy were used for the identification and characterization of MPs in the leachates and analysis of CGB. Presence of the secondary MPs (e.g., degraded polyolefin mixtures) was determined in the tested landfill leachates, while cellulose acetate (CA) was not determined in these products. The leachates were tested as potential media for the thermophilic (55°C)…
What about computational super-resolution in fluorescence Fourier light field microscopy?
2020
Recently, Fourier light field microscopy was proposed to overcome the limitations in conventional light field microscopy by placing a micro-lens array at the aperture stop of the microscope objective instead of the image plane. In this way, a collection of orthographic views from different perspectives are directly captured. When inspecting fluorescent samples, the sensitivity and noise of the sensors are a major concern and large sensor pixels are required to cope with low-light conditions, which implies under-sampling issues. In this context, we analyze the sampling patterns in Fourier light field microscopy to understand to what extent computational super-resolution can be triggered duri…
Characterization of the nanocomposite laminate structure occurring in fish scales from Arapaima Gigas
2008
In the present paper, the nanocomposite laminate structure of scales from the Amazonian fish Arapaima Gigas is investigated. The structure and composition of the scales were assessed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The theory of Fickian diffusion is used and discussed in order to rationalize the water absorption and desorption behavior of the scales. Morphology studies and fracture analysis of the native scales were carried out using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Light Optical Microscopy (LOM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). A fibrous layer of collagen and a plywood-like structure were observed. In order to study the …
Microscope system with on axis programmable Fourier transform filtering
2017
Abstract We propose an on-axis microscope optical system to implement programmable optical Fourier transform image processing operations, taking advantage of phase and polarization modulation of a liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) display. We use a Hamamatsu spatial light modulator (SLM), free of flickering, which therefore can be tuned to fully eliminate the zero order component of the encoded diffractive filter. This allows the realization of filtering operation on axis (as opposed to other systems in the literature that require operating off axis), therefore making use of the full space bandwidth provided by the SLM. The system is first demonstrated by implementing different optical proce…
Robust Depth Estimation for Light Field Microscopy
2019
Light field technologies have seen a rise in recent years and microscopy is a field where such technology has had a deep impact. The possibility to provide spatial and angular information at the same time and in a single shot brings several advantages and allows for new applications. A common goal in these applications is the calculation of a depth map to reconstruct the three-dimensional geometry of the scene. Many approaches are applicable, but most of them cannot achieve high accuracy because of the nature of such images: biological samples are usually poor in features and do not exhibit sharp colors like natural scene. Due to such conditions, standard approaches result in noisy depth ma…
