Modification of polyoxymethylene for increased thermal resistance

Ternary nanocomposites, composed of polyoxymethylene (POM), ethylene octene copolymer and zinc oxide (ZnO), are prepared by melt compounding. The effects of two types of ethylene-octene copolymers, differing with α-octene content (38% for EOC38 and 17% for EOC17), as well as nanostructured ZnO on thermal behavior of POM are investigated. The content of EOC in the POM based composites is varied between 10 and 50 wt%, while the content of ZnO is 2 wt%. Thermal behavior of POM based systems are studied by using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Thermal and structural properties of historical woods from apparatuses of the Historical Collection of the Physics Instruments of the University of Palermo have been investigated by FTIR spectroscopy coupled with thermogravimetric analysis. Specifically, the wooden portions of apparatuses from XIX century have been studied. The investigated woods belong to different taxa (Swietenia mahagoni, Picea abies and Juglans regia). The thermal behavior of the wooden materials has been successfully interpreted on the basis of specific indexes determined by the quantitative analysis of the FTIR spectra. Hierarchical structure and cytocompatibility of fish scales from Carassius auratus

Abstract To study the structure and the cytocompatibility of fish scales from Carassius auratus , scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the morphology of fish scales treated with different processing methods. Based on varying morphologies and components, the fish scales can be divided into three regions on the surface and three layers in vertical. The functions of these three individual layers were analyzed. SEM results show that the primary inorganic components are spherical or cubic hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles. Gravimetric and FTIR study of the interaction of tetramethylethylene on a MFI zeolite

The adsorption of tetramethylethylene on a high siliceous ZSM-5 zeolite was performed by thermogravimetry, in situ FTIR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation. Sorption and spectroscopic data were analysed as a function of loading and compared with molecular dynamics simulated results to characterize the adsorption process. The isotherm at 298 K does not show any deviation from the type I behaviour. The presence of admolecules in micropores does not or weakly affect zeolite framework vibration bands but induces an additional band at around 1715 cm−1 mainly due to a contribution of the microporous surface of the adsorbent. We present deconvolution of multiple narrow Zeeman split Hg lines, emitted from Hg/Xe micro-size capillary and measured by the Fourier Transform spectrometer. The ill-posed inverse problem was solved using the Tikhonov& rsquo;s regularization method.

Succinic derivatives of inulin (INU-SA) with two different degrees of derivatization (20% and 30%, mol/mol) were cross-linked with α,β-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) to obtain INUPAHy hydrogels. Cross-linking was performed using N-ethyl-N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide (NHSS) as coupling agents and by varying the reaction time (4 h, 8 h and 24 h). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, followed by linear discriminant analysis of the spectral data, was used to classify Italian Pecorino cheeses according to their ripening time and manufacturing technique. The Fourier transform infrared spectra of the cheeses were divided into 18 regions and the normalized absorbance peak areas within these regions were used as predictors. International audience; Some odorant lactones are naturally present in fruits or in fermented products; they can also be used as food additives and can be produced by microorganisms at the industrial scale by biotechnological processes. Gamma-decalactone was previously shown to have antimicrobial properties. We determined by infrared spectroscopy measurements that this compound rapidly diffused into model phospholipid bilayers (within 2 min), modifying the general physical state of a dimyristoyl-L-alpha-phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) film.
