FTIR spectroscopy studies of high pressure-induced changes in pork macromolecular structure

Abstract High pressure processing (HPP) allows to extend the shelf life of meat and meat products by pressurization of microorganisms. At the same time, HPP can induce changes of the protein structure. Vacuum-packed pork chops were HPP-treated at 300, 600 MPa for 1 or 15 min. Samples of raw, cooked and HPP-treated meat muscles and juice were analysed to evaluate the structure of macromolecules. HPP caused visible discolouration of pork chops; hence, the colour of pork meat surface was tested. Lanthanide–saccharide chemistry: synthesis and characterisation of Ce(III)–saccharide complexes

A series of nine Ce(III) complexes has been synthesised with seven different monosaccharides (D-glucose, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-mannose, L-sorbose, D-ribose and D-xylose) and two different disaccharides (D-maltose and L-lactose), and these have been characterised with various analytical, spectral, magnetic and electrochemical techniques. The NMR studies have highlighted some interesting features about the metal-ion-binding pattern of the saccharides. Water adsorption and capillary bridge formation within a layer of SiO2-nanoparticles were studied in situ by means of a combination of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D) with dissipation analysis and Fourier transformation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (FT-IRRAS). FT-IR data were employed to distinguish the “ice-like” and “liquid-like” contributions and to support the analysis of the QCM-D data concerning mass change and dissipation. Irradiation effects on the OH-related infrared absorption band in synthetic wet silica.

The effects of b-irradiation on the OH-related infrared (IR) absorption band in synthetic wet silica samples have been investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Depending on the accumulated doses, b-irradiation affects different zones of the IR composite band at about 3670 cm 1 , assigned to the OH stretching modes of silanol groups. These modifications are independent of the original OH content. The results are discussed considering possible radiation-induced changes of the silanol bonding configuration and of the glass network. The properties of the 1:1 iodine-benzene complex isolated in a solid Kr matrix at low temperatures have been studied using UV-vis absorption, FTIR, resonance Raman, and femtosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (fs-CARS). The use of all these techniques on similar samples provides a wide view on the spectroscopic properties of the complex and allows comparison and combination of the results from different methods. Line intensities of CH3D in the Triad region: 6–10μm

Abstract Line intensities of the three lowest fundamentals of the 12CH3D Triad are modeled with an RMS of 3.2% using over 2100 observed values retrieved by multispectrum fitting of enriched sample spectra recorded with two Fourier transform spectrometers. The band strengths of the Triad in units of 10−18 cm−1/(molecule cm−2) at 296 K are, respectively, 2.33 for ν6 (E) at 1161 cm−1, 1.75 for ν3 (A1) at 1307 cm−1 and 0.571 for ν5 (E) at 1472 cm−1. The total calculated absorption arising from 12CH3D Triad fundamentals is 4.65×10−18 cm−1/(molecule cm−2) at 296 K. Wooden panel paintings investigation: An air-coupled ultrasonic imaging approach

In this paper, a method for the study of wooden panel paintings using air-coupled acoustical imaging is presented. In order to evaluate the advantages of the technique, several samples were made to mimic panel paintings along with their typical defects. These specimens were tested by means of both single-sided and through-transmission techniques using planar transducers. Image data were processed by means of a two-dimensional (2-D)-fast Fourier transform-based algorithm to increase the S/N ratio and 2-D representations (C-scans) were generated. Coordination properties of adenosine-5'-monophosphate and related ligands towards Me2Sn(IV)2+ in aqueous solution.

Abstract The coordination of Me 2 Sn(IV) 2+ to adenosine-5′-monophosphate (AMP) and the related compounds d -ribose-5-phosphate (R5P), d -glucose-1-phosphate (G1P) and d -glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) in aqueous solution was investigated by means of potentiometric titration, and 1 H-, 31 P-NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopic methods in the pH range 2–11 ( I =0.1 M NaClO 4 , 298 K).
