A Comprehensive Thermogravimetric Analysis Multifaceted Method for the Exact Determination of the Composition of Multifunctional Metal‐Organic Framew…
2020
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) has been widely used as a tool to characterise the composition of materials such as Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). However, given their multifunctionality and structural complexity, examples of detailed methodologies for the exact calculation of the composition of complex MOF structures and MOF composites are lacking in the literature. Herein, we introduce a new straightforward methodology – based on the experimental ratio between the mass of a structure and its residue – for the exact calculation of the composition of almost any MOF material. We provide a detailed guide for the application of our methodology to different MOF materials, including MOFs in w…
Efficient formulation of a two-noded geometrically exact curved beam element
2021
The article extends the formulation of a 2D geometrically exact beam element proposed by Jirasek et al. (2021) to curved elastic beams. This formulation is based on equilibrium equations in their integrated form, combined with the kinematic relations and sectional equations that link the internal forces to sectional deformation variables. The resulting first-order differential equations are approximated by the finite difference scheme and the boundary value problem is converted to an initial value problem using the shooting method. The article develops the theoretical framework based on the Navier-Bernoulli hypothesis, with a possible extension to shear-flexible beams. Numerical procedures …
Consumers’ acceptance of information and communications technology in tourism: A review
2017
The review provides a conceptual framework on e-tourism research.Research on e-tourism is grouped into three classifications.Research on these three groups are uneven.Synthesis of theories, theories and frameworks provided. The impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in tourism (e-tourism) has altered the ways tourism services are accessed and consumed. Ubiquitous and highly innovative ICTs provide different channels for consumers to use tourism services; thus, studies on e-tourism are numerous and fragmented. Different factors account for how consumers embrace these channels. The purpose of this study is to review studies on consumers acceptance or adoption of e-tourism i…
Noise assisted image processing by ensembles of R-SETs
2017
AbstractWe study how noise can assist the processing of an image in a resistance-single electron transistor (R-SET) model. The image is an 8-bit black and white picture. Every grey level is codified linearly into a sub-threshold input potential applied for a prescribed time window to an ensemble of R-SETs that transforms it into a spiking frequency. The addition of a background white noise potential of high amplitude permits the ensemble to process the image by means of the stochastic resonance phenomenon. Aside from the positive aspects, we analyse the negative impact of using noise and how we can minimize it using redundancy and a longer measuring time. The results are compared with the c…
An efficient hardware implementation of MQ decoder of the JPEG2000
2014
Abstract JPEG2000 is an international standard for still images intended to overcome the shortcomings of the existing JPEG standard. Compared to JPEG image compression techniques, JPEG2000 standard has not only better not only has better compression ratios, but it also offers some exciting features. As it’s hard to meet the real-time requirement of image compression systems by software, it is necessary to implement compression system by hardware. The MQ decoder of the JPEG2000 standard is an important bottleneck for real-time applications. In order to meet the real-time requirement we propose in this paper a novel architecture for a MQ decoder with high throughput which is comparable to tha…
Performance of frame transmissions and event-triggered sleeping in duty-cycled WSNs with error-prone wireless links
2018
Abstract Two types of packet transmission schemes are prevalent in duty-cycled wireless sensor networks, i.e., single packet transmission and aggregated packet transmission which integrates multiple packets in one frame. While most existing models are developed based on an error-free channel assumption, this paper evaluates the performance of both transmission schemes under error-prone channel conditions. We develop a four-dimensional discrete-time Markov chain model to investigate the impact of channel impairments on the performance of frame transmissions. Together with tracking the number of packets in the queue, number of retransmissions and number of active nodes, the fourth dimension o…
Local regularity for time-dependent tug-of-war games with varying probabilities
2016
We study local regularity properties of value functions of time-dependent tug-of-war games. For games with constant probabilities we get local Lipschitz continuity. For more general games with probabilities depending on space and time we obtain H\"older and Harnack estimates. The games have a connection to the normalized $p(x,t)$-parabolic equation $(n+p(x,t))u_t=\Delta u+(p(x,t)-2) \Delta_{\infty}^N u$.
Nonholonomic Interpolation for Kinematic Problems, Entropy and Complexity
2008
Here we present the main lines of a theory we developed in a series of previous papers, about the motion planning problem in robotics. We illustrate the theory with a few academic examples.

UnipaBCI a novel general software framework for brain computer interface
2017
The increasing interest in Brain Computer Interface (BCI) requires new fast, reliable and scalable frameworks that can be used by researchers to develop BCI based high performance applications in efficient and fast ways. In this paper is presented "UnipaBCI", a general software framework for BCI applications based on electroencephalogra-phy (EEG) that can fulfill these new needs. A visual evoked potentials (VEP) application has also been developed using the proposed framework in order to test the modular architecture and the overall performance. Different types of users (beginners and experts in BCI) have been involved during the "UnipaBCI" experimental test and they have exhibited good and…
