First results from an ultra-fast frame image acquisition diagnostic coupled to a 2.45 GHz microwave hydrogen discharge are presented. The plasma reactor has been modified to include a transparent doubled shielded quartz window allowing to viewing the full plasma volume. Pictures describing the breakdown process at 1μs exposure time have been obtained for integrated visible light signal, Balmer-alpha, Balmer-beta lines, and Fulcher-band. Several different plasma emission distributions are reported. The distribution depends on the magnetic field configuration, incident microwave power, and neutral gas pressure. peerReviewed

Three heterobimetallic complexes of formula [Ca2Cu3(mpyba)2(2-apyma)(H2O)7]·8.3H2O (1), [Sr2Cu3(mpyba)2(2-apyma)(H2O)8]·11.6H2O (2) and [Sr4.5Cu4(mpyba)4(ox)(H2O)20]·8.5H2O (3) [H4mpyba = N,N'-2,6-pyridinebis(oxamic acid), 2-apyma = 2-(6-aminopyridinyl)oxamate and ox = oxalate] have been synthesized and structurally characterized. A bio-metal-organic framework (bio-MOF) derived from the amino acid L-serine has been prepared in bulk form and evaluated as sorbent for the molecular recognition and extraction of B-vitamins. The functional pores of bio-MOF exhibit high amounts of hydroxyl groups jointly directing other supramolecular host-guest interactions thus providing the recognition of B-vitamins in fruit juices and energy drinks. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal the specific B-vitamin binding sites and the existence of multiple hydrogen bonds between these target molecules and the framework.
