Los oficiales y subalternos de la Real Audiencia de Mallorca (1716-1808)

2019

The objective of this work is to know the organic structure of the officers and subordinates of the Royal Court of Majorca during the 18th century, which was the essence of the high judicial administration insular. Because of that, we approached through these relatively extensive professionals, with the description of their functions, who they were and how they obtained their charges. The article ends with an epilogue dedicated to the enlargement of the Royal Court with the creation of the second chamber during the reformist stage of Charles III to improve the high judicial administration insular.

Homing and memory patterns of human gammadelta T cells in physiopathological situations.

2004

Vgamma9Vdelta2 are a heterogeneous population of T cells and comprise distinct naive, memory and effector populations that can be distinguished on the basis of surface marker expression and effector functions. We review here these recently studied features of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T lymphocyte biology and the roles they play in infectious and autoimmune diseases.

Dark-matter detection by elastic and inelastic LSP scattering on 129Xe and 131Xe

2008

Abstract We calculate the nuclear matrix elements involved in the elastic and inelastic scattering of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) on the 129Xe and 131Xe dark-matter detector nuclei. This is the first time when both channels are addressed within the same unified microscopic nuclear framework, namely we perform large-scale shell-model calculations with a realistic two-body interaction to produce the participant nuclear wave functions. These wave functions successfully reproduce the spectroscopic data on the relevant magnetic moments and M1 decays. The tested wave functions are used to produce annual average detection rates for both the elastic and inelastic channels. It is foun…

Fronto-parietal homotopy in resting-state functional connectivity predicts task-switching performance

2021

Homotopic functional connectivity reflects the degree of synchrony in spontaneous activity between homologous voxels in the two hemispheres. Previous studies have associated increased brain homotopy and decreased white matter integrity with performance decrements on different cognitive tasks across the life-span. Here, we correlated functional homotopy, both at the whole-brain level and specifically in fronto-parietal network nodes, with task-switching performance in young adults. Cue-to-target intervals (CTI: 300 vs. 1200 ms) were manipulated on a trial-by-trial basis to modulate cognitive demands and strategic control. We found that mixing costs, a measure of task-set maintenance and moni…

Impact of Perceived Stress and Immune Status on Decision-Making Abilities during COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown.

2021

The ability to make risky decisions in stressful contexts has been largely investigated in experimental settings. We examined this ability during the first months of COVID-19 pandemic, when in Italy people were exposed to a prolonged stress condition, mainly caused by a rigid lockdown. Participants among the general population completed two cognitive tasks, an Iowa Gambling Task (IGT), which measures individual risk/reward decision-making tendencies, and a Go/No-Go task (GNG), to test impulsivity, together with two questionnaires, the Perceived Stress Scale and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales. The Immune Status Questionnaire was additionally administered to explore the impact of t…

The periods of the generalized Jacobian of a complex elliptic curve

2015

Abstract We show that the toroidal Lie group G = ℂ2/Λ, where Λ is the lattice generated by (1, 0), (0, 1) and (τ̂, τ͂), with τ̂ ∉ ℝ, is isomorphic to the generalized Jacobian JL of the complex elliptic curve C with modulus τ̂, defined by any divisor class L ≡ (M) + (N) of C fulfilling M − N = [℘ (τ͂) : ℘´(τ͂) : 1] ∈ C. This follows from an apparently new relation between the Weierstrass sigma and elliptic functions.

Identification of the essential protein domains for Mib2 function during the development of the Drosophila larval musculature and adult flight muscles

2016

The proper differentiation and maintenance of myofibers is fundamental to a functional musculature. Disruption of numerous mostly structural factors leads to perturbations of these processes. Among the limited number of known regulatory factors for these processes is Mind bomb2 (Mib2), a muscle-associated E3 ubiquitin ligase, which was previously established to be required for maintaining the integrity of larval muscles. In this study, we have examined the mechanistic aspects of Mib2 function by performing a detailed functional dissection of the Mib2 protein. We show that the ankyrin repeats, in its entirety, and the hitherto uncharacterized Mib-specific domains (MIB), are important for the…

Radiating and non-radiating sources in elasticity

2018

In this work, we study the inverse source problem of a fixed frequency for the Navier's equation. We investigate that nonradiating external forces. If the support of such a force has a convex or non-convex corner or edge on their boundary, the force must be vanishing there. The vanishing property at corners and edges holds also for sufficiently smooth transmission eigenfunctions in elasticity. The idea originates from the enclosure method: The energy identity and new type exponential solutions for the Navier's equation.

Alcohol consumption and hormonal alterations related to muscle hypertrophy: a review

2014

Detrimental effects of acute and chronic alcohol (ethanol) consumption on human physiology are well documented in the literature. These adversely influence neural, metabolic, cardiovascular, and thermoregulatory functions. However, the side effects of ethanol consumption on hormonal fluctuations and subsequent related skeletal muscle alterations have received less attention and as such are not entirely understood. The focus of this review is to identify the side effects of ethanol consumption on the major hormones related to muscle metabolism and clarify how the hormonal profiles are altered by such consumption.
