I tratti distintivi dell’economia degli intermediari bancari: un approccio di analisi funzionalista.

2012

This paper aims to examine the basic functions performed by banks. It is argued that financial crisis has altered the traditional economics of banking in an important way. A key element of our paper is the use of a functional perspective to study the economics of banking. It is applicable at several levels of analysis: systems, institutions, activities, and products. The application of the functional perspective at the level of financial institutions is particularly useful because the functions are more stable than activities and products.

Treatment of Traumatised Sexuality

2021

Based on therapeutic meetings with individuals who have experienced sexual violence and abuse, the challenge is how do we help these couples to establish sexual relationships on their own terms, without interference of defence or coping strategies they have used to protect themselves against the overwhelming experiences of violence or abuse in the past? This article will focus on therapeutic work with such couples and how to interact with them and support their efforts to establish satisfying sexual relationships, based on sexological experience as well as experience from work with traumatisation. The basis for our treatment is a modified version of William Masters and Virginia Johnson’s ap…

Multiple-Output Walsh Function Generation for Minimum Orthogonality Error

1978

A hazard-free multiple-output Walsh function generator is presented which requires a minimum amount of hardware and is as fast as the integrated logic family employed for the implementation. However, the main characteristic of the instrument is the optimum performance from the viewpoint of the orthogonality of the function generated, as it is shown by the experimental verifications reported.

First-Order Calculus on Metric Measure Spaces

2020

In this chapter we develop a first-order differential structure on general metric measure spaces. First of all, the key notion of cotangent module is obtained by combining the Sobolev calculus (discussed in Chap. 2) with the theory of normed modules (described in Chap. 3). The elements of the cotangent module L2(T∗X), which are defined and studied in Sect. 4.1, provide a convenient abstraction of the concept of ‘1-form on a Riemannian manifold’.

Assessing hot and cool executive functions in preschoolers: affective flexibility predicts emotion regulation

2018

Affective flexibility (AF) is the ability to alternate between processing emotional and non-emotional information. This hot executive function has been understudied during early development. The fi...

Exploring working memory in children with low arithmetical achievement

2005

Abstract This research aimed at exploring the working memory functions in children with low arithmetical achievement and normal reading, compared to age matched controls (mean age 9 years). All the children completed a series of working memory tasks, involving the central executive functions (using both linguistic and numerical material), the phonological loop (using words, pseudo-words and digits) and the visual sketchpad (using both static visual-spatial patterns and visual-spatial sequences). Results indicated that poor arithmeticians performed worse than age-matched controls in all the visual sketchpad tasks and in all the central executive tasks, whether they used linguistic or numeric…

Cognitive flexibility and reaction time improvements after cognitive training designed for men perpetrators of intimate partner violence: results of …

2022

AbstractPurpose Current interventions for intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetrators are designed to reduce IPV recidivism by treating risk factors and increasing protective factors. However, these interventions pay less attention to cognitive functioning in IPV perpetrators and how these variables interfere with the future risk of recidivism. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to compare the effectiveness of Standard Intervention Programs for men who perpetrate IPV [SIP] + cognitive training vs SIP + placebo training in promoting cognitive improvements and reducing recidivism. Furthermore, we also aimed to assess whether changes in the risk of recidivism would be related …

BIOCHARS IN SOILS: TOWARDS THE REQUIRED LEVEL OF SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING

2017

The special issue on Biochar as an Option for Sustainable Resource Management Key priorities in biochar research for future guidance of sustainable policy development have been identified by expert assessment within the COST Action TD1107. The current level of scientific understanding (LOSU) regarding the consequences of biochar application to soil were explored. Five broad thematic areas of biochar research were addressed: soil biodiversity and ecotoxicology, soil organic matter and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, soil physical properties, nutrient cycles and crop production, and soil remediation. The highest future research priorities regarding biochar’s effects in soils were: functional …

Links Between Soil Security and the Influence of Soil on Human Health

2017

Soil is important to human health because of (1) food availability and quality, (2) human contact with various chemicals in soil, (3) human contact with soil organisms, and (4) disposal of wastes. The five dimensions of soil security each have ties to soils and their influence on human health. Capability is related to the ability of soils to produce adequate and high-quality food and filter waste products to provide a clean environment, particularly clean, safe water supplies. Condition influences the nutritional quality of agricultural products produced in a given soil. Capital recognizes that there is value to the services soil provides in promoting human health, costs when soil constitue…
