Middle Triassic conodont apparatus architecture revealed by synchrotron X-ray microtomography

2018

Abstract The composition of conodont apparatuses is crucial for understanding the feeding mechanisms of these early vertebrates. However, the multielement apparatus reconstructions of most species remain equivocal because they have been inferred from loose element collections, guided by knowledge from rare articulated ‘bedding plane assemblages’ and fused clusters, often from distantly related taxa. Even these natural assemblages can be difficult to interpret because the component elements can be closely juxtaposed or embedded in matrix, making it hard to discern the morphology of each element and their relative positions within the architecture of the feeding apparatus. Here we report five…

A Deletion of the Nuclear Localization Signal Domain in the Fus Protein Induces Stable Post-stress Cytoplasmic Inclusions in SH-SY5Y Cells

2021

Mutations in Fused-in-Sarcoma (FUS) gene involving the nuclear localization signal (NLS) domain lead to juvenile-onset Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The mutant protein mislocalizes to the cytoplasm, incorporating it into Stress Granules (SG). Whether SGs are the first step to the formation of stable FUS-containing aggregates is still unclear. In this work, we used acute and chronic stress paradigms to study the SG dynamics in a human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line carrying a deletion of the NLS domain of the FUS protein (homozygous: ΔNLS–/–; heterozygous: ΔNLS+/–). Wild-type (WT) cells served as controls. We evaluated the subcellular localization of the mutant protein through immuno…

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of dimethyl (1R*, 3aS*, 3a(1)R*, 6aS*, 9R*, 9aS*)-3a(1),5,6,9a-tetrahydro-1H,4H,9H-1,3a:6a,9-diepoxy…

2019

The title diepoxyphenalene derivative, C17H18O6, comprises a fused cyclic system containing four five-membered rings (two dihydrofuran and two tetrahydrofuran) and one six-membered ring (cyclohexane). The five-membered dihydrofuran and tetrahydrofuran rings adopt envelope conformations, and the six-membered cyclohexane ring adopts a distorted chair conformation. Two methyl carboxylate groups occupy adjacent positions (2- and 3-) on a tetrahydrofuran ring. In the crystal, two pairs of C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds link the molecules to form inversion dimers, enclosing two R-2(2)(6) ring motifs, that stack along the a-axis direction and are arranged in layers parallel …

One pot light assisted green synthesis, storage and antimicrobial activity of dextran stabilized silver nanoparticles.

2014

Background Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) mediated with dextran. Dextran was used as a stabilizer and capping agent to synthesize Ag NPs using silver nitrate (AgNO3) under diffused sunlight conditions. Results UV–vis spectra of as synthesized Ag nanoparticles showed characteristic surface plasmon band in the range from ~405-452 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies showed spherical Ag NPs in the size regime of ~50-70 nm. Face centered cubic lattice of Ag NPs was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD…

Implication of anti-angiogenic VEGF-A165b in angiogenesis and systolic function after reperfused myocardial infarction

2020

Abstract Background Angiogenesis participates in re-establishing microcirculation after myocardial infarction (MI). Purpose In this study, we aim to further understand the role of the anti-angiogenic isoform vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A165b after MI and explore its potential as a co-adjuvant therapy to coronary reperfusion. Methods Two mice MI models were formed: 1) permanent coronary ligation (non-reperfused MI), 2) transient 45-min coronary occlusion followed by reperfusion (reperfused MI); in both models, animals underwent echocardiography before euthanasia at day 21 after MI induction. Serum and myocardial VEGF-A165b levels were determined. In both experimental MI models,…

Numerical procedures and their practical application in PV module analyses. Part III: parameters of atmospheric transparency – determining and correl…

2023

The presented article examines aspects of a PV module testing using natural sunlight in outdoor conditions. The article discusses the physical sense of indexes: atmosphere purity, diffused component content, beam clear sky index. Procedures for their determination are given in relation to both instantaneous and daily values. Their close connection with the values of solar irradiance spectral distribution such as Average Photon Energyand Useful Fractionis demonstrated, as well as their usefulness in moduletesting in outdoor conditions. Their influence on the conversion of modules made from various absorbers and various technologies is demonstrated

Relay Catalysis: Enantioselective Synthesis of Cyclic Benzo-Fused Homoallylic Alcohols by Chiral BrOnsted Acid-Catalyzed Allylboration/Ring Closing M…

2013

Six- and seven-membered benzo-fused cyclic homoallylic alcohols can be readily synthesized by a tandem chiral BrOnsted acid-catalyzed allyl (crotyl)boration/ring closing metathesis sequence performed under orthogonal relay catalysis conditions. Excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivities are obtained in most of the cases. In addition, the parent crotylboration/RCM process is also described. The required substrates, ortho-vinylbenzaldehydes, are readily available in one step from commercially available starting materials. Both catalysts and reactants are also available from commercial suppliers. The reaction shows broad functional group compatibility and is also suitable for heteroaromatic…
