2012

Published version in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/259494 A novel algorithm, called variable weight fuzzy marginal linearization VWFML method, is proposed. Thismethod can supply approximate analytic and numerical solutions to Lane-Emden equations. And it is easy to be implemented and extended for solving other nonlinear differential equations. Numerical examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the developed technique.

A novel evaluation model for hybrid power system based on vague set and Dempster-Shafer evidence theory

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/784389 Because clean energy and traditional energy have different advantages and disadvantages, it is of great significance to evaluate comprehensive benefits for hybrid power systems. Based on thorough analysis of important characters on hybrid power systems, an index system including security, economic benefit, environmental benefit, and social benefit is established in this paper. Due to advantages of processing abundant uncertain and fuzzy information, vague set is used to determine the decision matrix. Convert vague decision matrix to …

Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller Design Using Takagi-Sugeno Modelled Nonlinear Systems

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/734094 Open access Adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed in this paper. The unknown system dynamics and upper bounds of the minimum approximation errors are adaptively updated with stabilizing adaptive laws. The closed-loop system driven by the proposed controllers is shown to be stable with all the adaptation parameters being bounded. The performance and stability of the proposed control system are achieved analytically using the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulations show that the …

A novel identification method for generalized T-S fuzzy systems

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/893807 In order to approximate any nonlinear system, not just affine nonlinear systems, generalized T-S fuzzy systems, where the control variables and the state variables, are all premise variables are introduced in the paper. Firstly, fuzzy spaces and rules were determined by using ant colony algorithm. Secondly, the state-space model parameters are identified by using genetic algorithm. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm

Filtering for Discrete Fuzzy Stochastic Time-Delay Systems with Sensor Saturation

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/146325 This paper addresses the H-infinity filtering problem for discrete fuzzy stochastic systems with time-varying delay and sensor saturation. Random noise depending on state and external disturbance is also taken into account. A decomposition approach is employed to solve the characteristic of sensor saturation. The scaled small gain (SSG) theorem is extended to the stochastic systems, which is employed to handle with the time-varying delay by transforming the original system into the form of an interconnected system consisting of two subsys…

Robust Observer Design for Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems with Mixed Neutral and Discrete Delays and Unknown Inputs

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/635709 A robust observer design is proposed for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy neutral models with unknown inputs. The model consists of a mixed neutral and discrete delay, and the disturbances are imposed on both state and output signals. Delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of an unknown input T-S observer with time delays are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Some relaxations are introduced by using intermediate variables. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the given results.

Fuzzy Variable Structure Control for Uncertain Systems with Disturbance

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/105074 This paper focuses on the fuzzy variable structure control for uncertain systems with disturbance. Specifically, the fuzzy control is introduced to estimate the control disturbance, the switching control is included to compensate for the approximation error, and they possess the characteristic of simpleness in design and effectiveness in attenuating the control chattering. Some typical numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the fuzzy variable structure controller proposed.

The Fuzzy Logic Gambit as a Paradigm of Lotfi’s Proposals

2019

Lotfi Zadeh, in discussing the future directions the discipline should have taken, has insisted in highlighting what he called `the Fuzzy Logic Gambit' , whose basic idea is that, when dealing with the solution of a problem through the use of Fuzzy Logic, two different type of precisions exist: ``precision in value'', which is connected to the ability of measuring reality, and ``precision in meaning'', which is what we want to attain when dealing with the real world. While the final goal of Fuzzy Logic is to provide some degree of precision to what is less precise in nature, he has brilliantly suggested that this can be obtained by bartering between precision in value and precision in meani…

Use of neurofuzzy networks to improve wastewater flow-rate forecasting

2009

A neurofuzzy wastewater flow-rate forecasting model (NFWFFM) has been developed and tested with actual data measured at the input of two wastewater treatment facilities which treat the wastewater corresponding to 150,000 and 1,250,000p.e., respectively. Good agreements between forecasted and actual flow-rates were obtained. The artificial intelligence algorithm uses only two input variables (day of the week and average daily flow-rate of day before) and one output variable (predicted average daily flow-rate). Using three months data for training the network, a long-term forecast (one month) is made with average errors below 10%. Results were compared with those obtained by applying the Cens…

Fuzzy logic and meteorological variables: a case study of solar irradiance

2002

Solar irradiance is an extreme case of an uncertain variable when measured on an hourly, or shorter time interval. In this paper solar irradiance has been considered as a case study for physical fuzzy modelling of a climate variable. The uncertainty of the solar irradiance is treated as a fuzzy uncertainty whilst other variables are considered crisp. The approach is robust as it does not rely on statistical assumptions, and it is a possible alternative to modelling complex systems. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a physical model of a meteorological variable based on fuzzy numbers has been proposed. Previous rule-based fuzzy meteorological models are only descriptive, and cann…
