ESCRT Requirements for Murine Leukemia Virus Release

2016

The Murine Leukemia Virus (MLV) is a gammaretrovirus that hijack host components of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) for budding. To determine the minimal requirements for ESCRT factors in MLV viral and viral-like particles (VLP) release, an siRNA knockdown screen of ESCRT(-associated) proteins was performed in MLV-producing human cells. We found that MLV VLPs and virions primarily engage the ESCRT-I factor Tsg101 and marginally the ESCRT-associated adaptors Nedd4-1 and Alix to enter the ESCRT pathway. Conversely, the inactivation of ESCRT-II had no impact on VLP and virion egress. By analyzing the effects of individual ESCRT-III knockdowns, VLP and virion releas…

Echovirus 1 infection depends on biogenesis of novel multivesicular bodies

2011

Summary Non-enveloped picornavirus echovirus 1 (EV1) clusters its receptor α2β1 integrin and causes their internalization and accumulation in α2β1 integrin enriched multivesicular bodies (α2-MVBs). Our results here show that these α2-MVBs are distinct from acidic late endosomes/lysosomes by several criteria: (i) live intra-endosomal pH measurements show that α2-MVBs are not acidic, (ii) they are not positive for the late endosomal marker LBPA or Dil-LDL internalized to lysosomes, and (iii) simultaneous stimulation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and α2β1 integrin clustering leads to their accumulation in separate endosomes. EGFR showed downregulation between 15 min and 2 h, where…

Nu…

Blow-up collocation solutions of nonlinear homogeneous Volterra integral equations

2011

In this paper, collocation methods are used for detecting blow-up solutions of nonlinear homogeneous Volterra-Hammerstein integral equations. To do this, we introduce the concept of "blow-up collocation solution" and analyze numerically some blow-up time estimates using collocation methods in particular examples where previous results about existence and uniqueness can be applied. Finally, we discuss the relationships between necessary conditions for blow-up of collocation solutions and exact solutions.

Automatic regrouping of strata in the goodness-of-fit chi-square test

2019

Pearson’s chi-square test is widely employed in social and health sciences to analyze categorical data and contingency tables. For the test to be valid, the sample size must be large enough to provide a minimum number of expected elements per category. This paper develops functions for regrouping strata automatically no matter where they are located, thus enabling the goodness-of-fit test to be performed within an iterative procedure. The functions are written in Excel VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and in Mathematica. The usefulness and performance of these functions is illustrated by means of a simulation study and the application to different datasets. Finally, the iterative use of …

Convergence for varying measures

2023

Some limit theorems of the type $\int_{\Omega}f_n dm_n -- --> \int_{\Omega}f dm$ are presented for scalar, (vector), (multi)-valued sequences of m_n-integrable functions f_n. The convergences obtained, in the vector and multivalued settings, are in the weak or in the strong sense.

Planar maps whose second iterate has a unique fixed point

2007

Let a>0, F: R^2 -> R^2 be a differentiable (not necessarily C^1) map and Spec(F) be the set of (complex) eigenvalues of the derivative F'(p) when p varies in R^2. (a) If Spec(F) is disjoint of the interval [1,1+a[, then Fix(F) has at most one element, where Fix(F) denotes the set of fixed points of F. (b) If Spec(F) is disjoint of the real line R, then Fix(F^2) has at most one element. (c) If F is a C^1 map and, for all p belonging to R^2, the derivative F'(p) is neither a homothety nor has simple real eigenvalues, then Fix(F^2) has at most one element, provided that Spec(F) is disjoint of either (c1) the union of the number 0 with the intervals ]-\infty, -1] and [1,\infty[, or (c2) t…

New spaces of matrices with operator entries

2019

In this paper, we will consider matrices with entries in the space of operators $\mathcal{B}(H)$, where $H$ is a separable Hilbert space and consider the class of matrices that can be approached in the operator norm by matrices with a finite number of diagonals. We will use the Schur product with Toeplitz matrices generated by summability kernels to describe such a class and show that in the case of Toeplitz matrices it can be identified with the space of continuous functions with values in $\mathcal B(H)$. We shall also introduce matriceal versions with operator entries of classical spaces of holomorphic functions such as $H^\infty(\mathbb{D})$ and $A(\mathbb{D})$ when dealing with upper t…
