Fabry disease in children and response to enzyme replacement therapy: results from the Fabry Outcome Survey
2011
The Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS) was established to extend the knowledge of the natural history of Fabry disease and to assess the effects of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with agalsidase alfa. As of March 2009, 64 boys and 34 girls with Fabry disease had enrolled in the FOS and been treated with agalsidase alfa for at least 6 months. The prevalence of symptoms tended to be reduced after 12 and 24 months of ERT in patients who experienced symptoms at baseline. In the entire population, non-significant decreases in the prevalence of gastrointestinal problems in boys and pain crises in girls were observed after 12-24 months. Kidney function and left ventricular mass indexed to height remaine…
Impact of the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic in Candidaemia, Invasive Aspergillosis and Antifungal Consumption in a Tertiary Hospital
2021
In addition to the increase in fungal infections that has been observed in the last few decades, it has been reported that severe clinical COVID-19 can increase the risk of invasive fungal infections. The main objective of this study was to evaluate if there had been an increase in candidaemia and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) cases since the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Data were retrospectively collected from April 2019 to March 2021, from patients admitted to Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia (Spain). A total of 152 candidaemia cases (56 of which were due to Candida auris) and 108 possible IPA cases were detected. A great increase in candidaemia cases was…

Latviešu studentu konkordiju Imantija un Zelmenis regālijas
2020
2020
Raksts satur informāciju par Latvijas Universitātes studentu biedrības Fraternitas Rusticana krāsu lenti, kas glabājās Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja krājumā. Rakstā analizēta pašas krāsu lentes simboliskā nozīme, sasaistot ar Kārļa Ulmaņa autoritārā režīma politisko ideoloģiju, antīko vēsturi un Latvijas studentu korporācijām. Rakstā tiek iegūts padziļinātāks pamatojums faktam, ka Fraternitas Rusticana pirmavots ir studentu korporācijas, ņemot vērā to sadzīves līdzību ar studentu korporācijām.
Efficacy and safety assessment of azithromycin 1.5% eye drops (azyter) in peri-operative antibio-prophylaxis for cataract surgery
2009
International audience; Introduction: Background: Endophthalmitis is still one of the most fearsome complications of cataract surgery. The most important pathogens causing post-operative phacoemulsification endophthalmitis are staphylococci. Methods: 85 patients were included in a phase II pilot study. Patients were divided in three groups, group 1 and 3 received either azithromycin 1.5% eye drops or placebo eye drops one day before surgery and for 2 days after surgery and group 2 received azithromycin 1.5% eye drops for 3 days after surgery. Treatments were administered twice a day: one drop in the morning and one in the evening. Bacterial samples were collected three times from the conjun…
Latvijas un Zviedrijas attiecības no 1927. līdz 1930. gadam
2022
A 15-Year Perspective of the Fabry Outcome Survey
2016
Abstract The Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS) is an international long-term observational registry sponsored by Shire for patients diagnosed with Fabry disease who are receiving or are candidates for therapy with agalsidase alfa (agalα). Established in 2001, FOS provides long-term data on agalα safety/efficacy and collects data on the natural history of Fabry disease, with the aim of improving clinical management. The FOS publications have helped establish prognostic and severity scores, defined the incidence of specific disease variants and implications for clinical management, described clinical manifestations in special populations, confirmed the high prevalence of cardiac morbidity, and demon…
Long-term effectiveness of agalsidase alfa enzyme replacement in Fabry disease: A Fabry Outcome Survey analysis
2015
Outcomes from 5 years of treatment with agalsidase alfa enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for Fabry disease in patients enrolled in the Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS) were compared with published findings for untreated patients with Fabry disease. Data were extracted from FOS, a Shire-sponsored database, for comparison with data from three published studies. Outcomes evaluated were the annualized rate of change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and left ventricular mass indexed to height (LVMI) as well as time to and ages at a composite morbidity endpoint and at death. FOS data were extracted for 740 treated patients who were followed for a median of ~ 5 years. Compared with no trea…
Effects of enzyme replacement therapy with agalsidase alfa on glomerular filtration rate in patients with Fabry disease: preliminary data
2007
Progressive deposition of globotriaosylceramide results in severe complications involving the kidney, heart and brain in both hemizygous male and heterozygous female patients with Fabry disease. Analysis of renal data from FOS - the Fabry Outcome Survey - suggests that enzyme replacement therapy with agalsidase alfa can significantly improve renal function in patients with Fabry disease, at least in those with a mild decrease in glomerular filtration rate, and may also be able to slow down the natural decline in renal function in patients with a moderate reduction in glomerular filtration rate. Conclusion: Initial results from the large cohort of patients within FOS indicate that treatment …
