Besides assess the classification of resection side, localization, lesion size, approximation of anatomic structures and the purpose of the apical surgery retrospectively. Material and Methods In this stutdy 782 patients and 1191 apical resection applied tooth evaluated. 504 of the patients were famale and 278 were male. Patients age was between 13 and 76 years old and operated between January 2016 and January 2017. The study includes incisor, canine and premolar teeth which had the apical resection as the first time. Operation side evaluated from orthopantomograph and periapical radiographs…

Marsupialization facilitates movement of the cystic lesion-associated deeply impacted mandibular third molar in spite of its mature roots

2017

Background: The odontogenic cystic lesions happened in the angle and ramus region are frequently associated with impacted mandibular third molars. The treatment plan was difficult to work out for the huge cystic lesions with deeply impacted third molars, since the enucleation with simultaneously removing the deeply impacted teeth may cause serious complications. Therefore, the marsupialization of the cystic lesions followed by enucleation with tooth removal has also been advocated. The aim of this study was to explore the movement of cystic lesion-associated deeply impacted mandibular third molars (IMTM) after marsupialization. Material and Methods: Between July 2009 and December 2015, pati…

Replication of previous genome-wide association studies of psychiatric diseases in a large schizophrenia case-control sample from Spain.

2014

Genome wide association studies (GWAS) has allowed the discovery of some interesting risk variants for schizophrenia (SCZ). However, this high-throughput approach presents some limitations, being the most important the necessity of highly restrictive statistical corrections as well as the loss of statistical power inherent to the use of a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) analysis approach. These problems can be partially solved through the use of a polygenic approach. We performed a genotyping study in SCZ using 86 previously associated SNPs identified by GWAS of SCZ, bipolar disorder (BPD) and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) patients. The sample consisted of 3063 independent cases wit…

Reducing Body Myopathy with Cytoplasmic Bodies and Rigid Spine Syndrome: A Mixed Congenital Myopathy

2001

At the age of five years a male child started to develop a progressive rigid spine, torsion scoliosis, and flexion contractures of his elbows, knees, hips, and ankles owing to severe proximal and distal muscle weakness. He had three muscle biopsies from three different muscles at ages 7, 11, and 14 years, respectively. Myopathologically, these muscle tissues contained numerous inclusions which, at the ultrastructural level, turned out to be reducing bodies and cytoplasmic bodies, often in close spatial proximity. Similar histological inclusions, although not further identified by histochemistry and electron microscopy, were seen in his maternal grandmother's biopsied muscle tissue who had d…

The tomato sauce making process affects the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of tomato phenolics: A pharmacokinetic study

2013

Tomato sauce is the most commonly consumed processed tomato product worldwide, but very little is known about how the manufacturing process may affect the phenolic composition and bioavailability after consumption. In a prospective randomised, cross-over intervention study, we analysed the plasma and urinary levels of tomato phenolic compounds and their metabolites after acute consumption of raw tomatoes and tomato sauce, enriched or not with refined olive oil during production. Respectively, eleven and four phenolic metabolites were found in urine and plasma samples. The plasma concentration and urinary excretion of naringenin glucuronide were both significantly higher after the consumptio…

Bilateral synchronous sporadic renal cell carcinoma: surgical management, oncological and functional outcomes

2007

OBJECTIVE To analyse the functional and oncological outcomes of surgical treatment of bilateral synchronous sporadic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 1969 and 2006, 57 patients with bilateral synchronous sporadic RCC were identified from our kidney database. The mean (range) follow-up was 4.8 (0.1–23.8) years; 28 patients (49%) had radical nephrectomy (RN) and contralateral nephron-sparing surgery (NSS), and 22 (39%) had bilateral NSS. The oncological outcome and long-term renal function were analysed. RESULTS After excluding four patients (7%) with bilateral benign renal tumours, six (11%) with metastatic bilateral RCC and three (5%) who had bilateral RN, the cancer…

Association of kidney disease measures with risk of renal function worsening in patients with type 1 diabetes

2018

Background Albuminuria has been classically considered a marker of kidney damage progression in diabetic patients and it is routinely assessed to monitor kidney function. However, the role of a mild GFR reduction on the development of stage ≥3 CKD has been less explored in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients. Aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic role of kidney disease measures, namely albuminuria and reduced GFR, on the development of stage ≥3 CKD in a large cohort of patients affected by T1DM. Methods A total of 4284 patients affected by T1DM followed-up at 76 diabetes centers participating to the Italian Association of Clinical Diabetologists (Associazione Medici D…

Where is the limit of prostate cancer biomarker research? Systematic investigation of potential prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers

2019

Background The identification of appropriate biomarkers is essential to support important clinical decisions in patients with prostate cancer. The aim of our study was a systematic bioinformatical analysis of the mRNA expression of all genes available for the prostate adenocarcinoma cohort of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), regarding their potential prognostic and diagnostic role. Methods The study cohort comprises 499 patients (TCGA prostate cancer cohort). mRNA expression data were available for approx. 20,000 genes. The bioinformatical statistical pipeline addressed gene expression differences in tumor vs. benign prostate tissue (including gene set enrichment analysis, GSEA) in samples f…

High prevalence of BRCA1 deletions in BRCAPRO-positive patients with high carrier probability.

2007

Mutation screening of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes in probands with familial breast/ovarian cancer has been greatly improved by the multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) assay able to evidence gene rearrangements not detectable by standard screening methods. However, no criteria for selection of cases to be submitted to the MLPA test have been reported yet. We used the BRCAPro software for the selection of familial breast/ovarian cancer probands investigated with the MLPA approach after negative BRCA1/2 conventional mutation screening. One hundred and seventy-seven probands were investigated for germline BRCA1/2 mutations after assessment of genetic risk using BRCAPro. Proban…

Effect of Sirolimus Exposure on the Need for Preemptive Antiviral Therapy for Cytomeglovirus Infection after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Trans…

2019

The current study evaluates the clinical effect of sirolimus exposure on the occurrence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNAemia necessitating preemptive antiviral therapy. A total of 167 consecutive recipients of reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) who received sirolimus- and tacrolimus-based graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis and whose CMV serostatus was positive for donors and/or recipients were included in this multicenter retrospective study. A parametric model with consecutive sirolimus blood levels describing the time to CMV DNAemia-RAT was developed using NONMEM version 7.4. Overall, 122 of 167 patients (73%) were all…
