Przymierzom biblijnym często towarzyszyły znaki, np. tęcza (Rdz 9,12–17), krew cielców (Wj 24,3–8) czy też chleb i wino (Łk 22,19–20). Zewnętrznym znakiem przymierza, jakie Bóg zawarł z Abrahamem, było obrzezanie (Rdz 17,9–14). Obrzęd ten został zaniedbany podczas czterdziestoletniej wędrówki przez pustynię. Jednak po przejściu Jordanu JHWH upomniał się o ten znak. Insect gut microbiota plays important roles in acquiring nutrition, preventing pathogens infection, modulating immune responses, and communicating with environment. Gut microbiota can be affected by external factors such as foods and antibiotics. Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an important destructive pest of grain crops worldwide. The function of gut microbiota in S. frugiperda remains to be investigated. Inhibition of human P450 enzymes by natural extracts used in traditional medicine

Different medicinal plants are widely used in Cuba and Mexico to treat several disorders. This paper reports in vitro inhibitory effects on the P450 system of herbal products commonly used by people in Cuba and Mexico in traditional medicine for decades. Experiments were conducted in human liver microsomes. The catalytic activities of CYP1A1/2, 2D6, and 3A4 were measured using specific probe substrates. The Heliopsis longipes extract exhibited a concentration-dependent inhibition of the three enzymes, and similar effects were produced by affinin (an alkamide isolated from the H. longipes extract) and two catalytically reduced alkamides. Basal heat improves adventitious root quality in Plumeria (Plumeria rubra L.) stem cuttings of different sizes

Root development of hardwood cuttings of Plumeria rubra was investigated in relation to basal heat and the size of cuttings. Terminal cuttings of a clone grown in Sicily were trimmed to various lengths, ranging from 10 to 26 cm. To verify the cutting rooting response to basal heat, half of the cuttings were placed on a basal heated bench (28 ± 3°C, constant temperature) while the remaining were placed on an unheated bench (16-18°C during the night and 20-22°C during the day). El Acuerdo de Asociación entre la Unión Europea y Egipto : Implicaciones para el sector agroalimentario

Josep.M.Jordan@uv.es En junio de 2001 Egipto firmó un Acuerdo de Asociación con la Unión Europea (UE) que entrará en vigor a comienzos de 2004. Dicho acuerdo, establecido en el contexto de las relaciones euromediterráneas, estipula la progresiva creación de un área de libre comercio entre ambas partes, si bien restringe un tanto el intercambio de productos agrícolas. Este artículo analiza cómo ha evolucionado hasta ahora el comercio agroalimentario entre Egipto y la UE, y vislumbra el posible impacto de una mayor liberalización de dichas transacciones. Tal liberalización resulta necesaria para Egipto y se considera que no tendrá efectos dramáticos para países como España.

The Scientific Collections of the Department of Architecture of Palermo preserve a patrimony constituted, beyond bibliographical material, from numerous drawings, prints, paintings, didactic tables and models in wood and chalk. In particular, the 103 chalk models of the “Collezione del Gabinetto di Disegno” are the subject of a study, still in progress, aimed at setting up the new Gipsoteca of the Department of Architecture in Viale delle Scienze. The paper presents the first results of a research about the preliminary investigations for the evaluation of the consistency and the state of conservation of the models in chalk and shows some guiding considerations for the preparation project. Si tratta del progetto di allestimento dell’antica Collezione di calchi in gesso custoditi dal Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo. Tale allestimento, realizzato presso gli spazi dipartimentali presenti all’interno del campus di Parco d’Orléans. I numerosi calchi sono stati esposti prediligendo il rapporto figura-sfondo e la rarefazione delle masse dal basso verso l’alto. La collezione comprende un cospicuo numero di calchi “romani” riferibili, in maggior parte, alla produzione di Michele Gerardi (attivo a Roma dal 1837). Sono presenti anche modelli originali di progetto, tardo ottocenteschi, di parti architettoniche e dei primi anni del Novecento.
