No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2015-01-01 In March 2013, 40 leading experts from across the world gathered at a workshop, hosted by the European Commission, Directorate General Joint Research Centre, Italy, to discuss the multiple benefits of soil carbon as part of a Rapid Assessment Process (RAP) project commissioned by Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE). This collaboration led to the publication of the SCOPE Series Volume 71 Soil Carbon: Science, Management and Policy for Multiple Benefits; which brings together the essential scientific evidence and policy opportunities regarding the global importa…

Wikipedia network analysis of cancer interactions and world influence

2019

AbstractWe apply the Google matrix algorithms for analysis of interactions and influence of 37 cancer types, 203 cancer drugs and 195 world countries using the network of 5 416 537 English Wikipedia articles with all their directed hyperlinks. The PageRank algorithm provides the importance order of cancers which has 60% and 70% overlaps with the top 10 cancers extracted from World Health Organization GLOBOCAN 2018 and Global Burden of Diseases Study 2017, respectively. The recently developed reduced Google matrix algorithm gives networks of interactions between cancers, drugs and countries taking into account all direct and indirect links between these selected 435 entities. These reduced n…

Analysis of Metabolic Parameters Coming from Basal and Interim PET in Hodgkin Lymphoma

2018

Objective: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with F-18-Fluoro-deoxy-glucose (FDG) emerged as a prognostic tool to predict treatment outcome in Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL). Moreover, a FDG-PET adapted strategy is currently assessed in clinical trial to minimize the toxic effect while maintaining the efficacy of treatment in HL. Purpose was to analyze the quantitative parameters to support the prognostic role of FDG-PET today based on the semi-quantitative Deauville 5-point Scale (D5-PS). Methods: This retrospective study included 53 patients diagnosed with advanced-stage HL between 2009 and 2014, enrolled in the PET response-adapted clinical trial HD 0607. FDG-PET was performed at baseline (PET0)…

Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells display anti-cancer activity in SCID mice bearing disseminated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma xenografts.

2010

Background Although multimodality treatment can induce high rate of remission in many subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), significant proportions of patients relapse with incurable disease. The effect of human bone marrow (BM) mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) on tumor cell growth is controversial, and no specific information is available on the effect of BM-MSC on NHL. Methodology/Principal Findings The effect of BM-MSC was analyzed in two in vivo models of disseminated non-Hodgkin's lymphomas with an indolent (EBV− Burkitt-type BJAB, median survival = 46 days) and an aggressive (EBV+ B lymphoblastoid SKW6.4, median survival = 27 days) behavior in nude-SCID mice. Intra-peritoneal (i.p.) i…

Pathobiology of Hodgkin Lymphoma

2010

Despite its well-known histological and clinical features, Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) has recently been the object of intense research activity, leading to a better understanding of its phenotype, molecular characteristics, histogenesis, and possible mechanisms of lymphomagenesis. There is complete consensus on the B-cell derivation of the tumor in most cases, and on the relevance of Epstein-Barr virus infection and defective cytokinesis in at least a proportion of patients. The REAL/WHO classification recognizes a basic distinction between lymphocyte predominance HL (LP-HL) and classic HL (cHL), reflecting the differences in clinical presentation and behavior, morphology, phenotype, and molec…

Burkitt’s lymphoma in pregnant woman: Difficult management of a rare case

2020

Highlights • Burkitt’s lymphoma, an aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma, is extremely rare during pregnancy. • Lymphoma of the small intestine is often overlooked in the early stages of the disease. • We described a multidisciplinary approach, cesarean section with surgical intestinal exploration.

Pharmacogenetics implementation in the clinics: information and guidelines for germline variants.

2018

The aim of this work was to supply an overview of the germline Pharmacogenetics that can be already implemented in the oncology clinical practice. An explanation of the three pillars considered necessary for determining which genetic polymorphisms should be used has been provided. These are PharmGKB single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-Drug Clinical Annotations with levels of evidence 1 or 2; the genetic information provided in the drug labels by the drug regulatory main agencies (Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency, mainly); and the guidelines elaborated by international expert consortia (mainly Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium and Dutch Pharmacoge…

Topology of multiplex heterogeneous networks of Hodgkin-Huxley-type of models with bistability leading to stabilization stable equilibrium

2021

The dynamics of a multiplex heterogeneous networks of oscillators is studied. Two types of very similar models based on the Hodgkin-Huxley formalism are used as the basic elements of the network: the first one demonstrates bursting oscillations; the second one manifests bistability between bursting oscillations and stable equilibrium. Multiplex networks were developed and investigated, assuming more active communication between models with bistability. Different topologies of the networks are studied. It is shown that in this case it is enough to have one element with bistability in the subnetworks in order to stabilize the equilibrium state in the entire network.

Note on the super-extended Moyal formalism and its BBGKY hierarchy

2017

We consider the path integral associated to the Moyal formalism for quantum mechanics extended to contain higher differential forms by means of Grassmann odd fields. After revisiting some properties of the functional integral associated to the (super-extended) Moyal formalism, we give a convenient functional derivation of the BBGKY hierarchy in this framework. In this case the distribution functions depend also on the Grassmann odd fields.
