Introduction: prolonged air leak (PAL) is one of the most common postoperative complications after lung surgery. It is associatred with increased significant morbidity, lower quality of life, longer hospital stay and higher hospital costs. Reconstruction of critical-size mandibular defects in immunoincompetent rats with human adipose-derived stromal cells

In patients with bony defects, autologous bone grafts are the "gold standard" for reconstruction. In children, autologous bone harvesting is limited but tissue engineering offers an alternative. Next to bone marrow, adipose tissue is a source of mesenchymal stromal cells, and adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSC) can differentiate into osteocytes. Minilaparoscopy-guided spleen biopsy in systemic disease with splenomegaly of unknown origin.

With the advent of a minimally invasive laparoscopy technique, the advantages of diagnostic laparoscopy are being rediscovered. We report here on four patients with systemic disease of unknown origin and splenomegaly, in whom minilaparoscopy-guided splenic biopsy yielded a definitive diagnosis. Four patients with unclear systemic disease were studied using diagnostic minilaparoscopy and guided spleen biopsy, after failure of diagnostic work-up. Minilaparoscopic spleen biopsy revealed the diagnosis of a B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in two cases. Does the use of fibrin glue prevent seroma formation after axillary lymphadenectomy for breast cancer? A prospective randomized trial in 159 patients.

Background Seroma formation frequently occurs in patients who have undergone axillary lymphadenectomy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of fibrin glue in the prevention of seroma formation after axillary lymphadenectomy. Materials and Methods Hundred fifty-nine breast cancer patients about to undergo quadrantectomy or mastectomy plus axillary lymphadenectomy were enrolled in the study and randomized into two groups. Kif3a interacts with Dynactin subunit p150 Glued to organize centriole subdistal appendages.

Formation of cilia, microtubule-based structures that function in propulsion and sensation, requires Kif3a, a subunit of Kinesin II essential for intraflagellar transport (IFT). We have found that, Kif3a is also required to organize centrioles. In the absence of Kif3a, the subdistal appendages of centrioles are disorganized and lack p150(Glued) and Ninein. Consequently, microtubule anchoring, centriole cohesion and basal foot formation are abrogated by loss of Kif3a. Kif3a localizes to the mother centriole and interacts with the Dynactin subunit p150(Glued) . Conservation Work on an Ancient Sicilian Processional Banner: Preliminary Analyses and in Situ Restoration

Abstract Before carrying out the conservation work on the gilded wooden frame of the processional banner coming from Tusa, Sicily, some preliminary diagnostic analyses were conducted in order to identify materials that made up the wooden frame. After a micro-sampling phase, a thin section of the wooden support allowed to identify the timber as linden wood (basswood). The X-Ray Fluorescence analysis confirmed the presence of a thin layer of primer made of plaster and animal glue covered with a red bolus primer, used for the gilding process. The restoration was carried out during the opening hours of the museum, allowing visitors to be informed on the restoration phases.

Suppression of pigment interference in the gas chromatographic analysis of proteinaceous binding media in paintings with EDTA.

A method to suppress the interference of pigments in the analysis of proteinaceous media used in paintings is presented in this paper. This method is based on the formation of metallic ion-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) complexes previous to the derivatisation process, using ethyl chloroformate (ECF), to transform the amino acids in N(O,S)-ethoxycarbonyl (EOC) ethyl esters. Daily streamlow prediction with uncertainty in ephemeral catchments using the GLUE methodology

Abstract The Generalised Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) approach is presented here as a tool for estimating the predictive uncertainty of a rainfall–runoff model. The GLUE methodology allows to recognise the possible equifinality of different parameter sets and assesses the likelihood of a parameters set being acceptable simulator when model predictions are compared to observed field data. The results of the GLUE methodology depend greatly on the choice of the likelihood measure and on the choice of the threshold which determines if a parameters set is behavioural or not. Production of a tensor glueball in the reaction γγ → G2π0 at large momentum transfer

Abstract We study the production of a tensor glueball in the reaction γ γ → G 2 π 0 . We compute the cross section at higher momentum transfer using the collinear factorisation approach. We find that for a value of the tensor gluon coupling of f g T ∼ 100 MeV, the cross section can be measured in the near future by the Belle II experiment.

The problem of legacy systems collaboration is being solved. Particularly we look at the collaboration as workflow in a distributed and heterogeneous environment. Attention is paid to the description of semantics for workflow process definition languages.
