Propyl substituted 4-arylimino-1,2,3-trihydroacridylnickel dihalide complexes were designed and prepared by metal-induced template reaction with NiCl2 center dot 6H(2)O or (DME)NiBr2. They were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Single crystal X-ray crystallography of representative complex Ni3 revealed a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry around nickel. The catalytic activities of the title nickel complexes were negatively affected by propyl substituent on their backbone when comparing with the results by unsubstituted ones. AbstractHemolytic strains of Vibrio cholerae secrete a cytolysin that, upon binding as a monomer, forms pentameric pores in animal cell membranes. Pore formation is inhibited at low temperature and in the absence of cholesterol. We here posed the following questions: firstly, can oligomerization be observed in the absence of pore formation? Secondly, is membrane fluidity responsible for the effect of temperature or of cholesterol upon pore formation? The first issue was approached by chemical cross-linking, by electrophoretic heteromer analysis, and by electron microscopy. Abstract Introduction Cigarette smoking influences response to antidepressant treatment. It accelerates the metabolism of several cytochrome P450 (CYP) subtypes, including CYP1A2, and therefore bears the risk of pharmacokinetic interactions with psychotropic drugs using that pathway. Agomelatine is a substrate of CYP1A2; the association between nicotine use and agomelatine dosage, however, has never been studied before.
