FACTORS INFLUENCING CAREER CHOICE AMONG NURSING STUDENTS
2018
Choosing a career is a complex and multi-factorial decision-making process that is based on several personal, situational and organizational factors. The purpose of this study is a literature review to determine factors influencing career choice among nursing students. The literature review displays that nursing students make their career decisions from a combination of personal interests in health care and their desire to help others. From the beginning of the studies students may have strong career preferences. Before they graduate and eventually decide about the future workplace, their career choices undergo several transitions. Career choices are influenced both by the students inclina…
Training Career Practitioners for the Current Context
2020
Training programs for career practitioners continue to increase in both quantity and quality. For example, international opportunities for those interested in career development facilitator training have increased substantially during the past decade. In this chapter we provide highlights of these developments as they have occurred throughout the world. The chapter details the substantial variability that exists regarding the training career practitioners receive. Finally, we make recommendations regarding minimal training standards and the need for more uniform language within our profession. peerReviewed
The Process of CEO Dismissal: An Exploratory study
2018
The decision to change the CEO is one of the most important decisions of the Board of Directors in a company. This study increases understanding of the process that leads to a Board’s decision to dismiss the CEO under conditions of poor performance, and of the meaning of attributions in CEO dismissal. The role of the Chair of the Board in this process is also explored. An exploratory, empirical study concerning nine CEO dismissal processes is conducted based on open-ended interviews with seven Chairpersons of the Board. The findings shed light on the issues that impact the relationship between poor company performance and CEO dismissal. In particular, the results increase understanding of t…
Sodium ions models cheeses at molecular and macroscopic levels
2009
National audience; The excessive consumption of sodium is one of the causes of nutritional related-health problems. The reduction of salt content without affecting technological and sensorial properties of foodstuffs is currently a challenge for the food industry1. There is a need to develop tools to quantify the “active” sodium ions in food products at molecular and macroscopic levels to better understand in-mouth salt release and flavour perception. In this context, methods for the quantification of the bound fraction were developed: 23Na NMR single-quantum (SQ) and double-quantum-filtered (DQF) sequences at molecular level using Bruker Avance-500 spectrometer equipped with 10 mm probe 2,…
Water-soluble polysaccharides from Opuntia stricta Haw. fruit peels: Recovery, identification and evaluation of their antioxidant activities
2015
Abstract Opuntia stricta Haw. is considered as one of the most common cactus plant growing in Tunisia. Extracting valuable compounds from its fruit peel, considered as by-product, is drawing more and more attention, making it on the verge of commercialization. Water-soluble polysaccharides were extracted from Opuntia stricta Haw. peels, and their chemical composition assessed using thin layer chromatography. The antioxidant activities of the extracted polysaccharides were assessed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity, total antioxidant activity and reducing power capacity. The extraction yield of water-soluble polysaccharides was 7.53±0.86%. The chemical comp…

Preparation of Soft Microactuators in a Continuous Flow Synthesis Using a Liquid-Crystalline Polymer Crosslinker
2012
We present the synthesis of a polymeric liquid crystalline (LC) crosslinker and its usage in the preparation of soft microactuators. The microactuators, composed of thermoresponsive liquid crystalline elastomers (LCE), are fabricated in a microfl uidic device in a continuous “on the fl y” process. The LC polymer crosslinker is miscible with the LC monomer and provides for a rapid polymerization and crosslinking. Most importantly, it promotes an enantiotropic mesophase of the mobile monomer phase, which is not provided by conventional nonmesogenic crosslinkers. This allows an isothermal handling inside the microfl uidic setup. Temperature-driven shape changes up to 65% could be achieved by j…
Dynamic optimization of a continuous Lactide ring-opening polymerization process
2019
An increasing attention has been paid to the production of the polylactic acid (PLA) in recent years, owing to its properties as a biodegradable thermoplastic besides the fact that it is derived from renewable resources. PLA is industrially produced by ring opening polymerization of lactide. This reaction is sensitive to deviations in the operating conditions that highly affect the reaction rate and the polymer properties. Therefore, a process monitoring and control policy is crucial in order to restore the nominal conditions in case of drift. In this paper, a continuous PLA process is considered with three cascade reactors, two tubular and one loop reactor, that is described by partial dif…
Preparation of actuating fibres of oriented main-chain liquid crystalline elastomers by a wetspinning process
2011
We present a versatile method to prepare oriented fibres with a defined thickness from main-chain liquid crystalline elastomers. A microfluidic setup is utilized to inject a solution of a photocrosslinkable smectic A main-chain polymer into a co-flowing stream of silicone oil. Diffusion of the solvent into the oil yields solid polymer filaments that are crosslinked in a continuous way by UV-irradiation. The obtained fibres are highly oriented and show a reversible and significant contraction during the liquid crystal's phase transition.
